Abstract/Summary:
Andrew Wyeth and Joseph Zbukvic are the representative figures of American and Australian watercolor paintings respectively.Wyeth’s realistic painting method is in sharp contrast with Joseph’s vivid rendering in landscape sketch.By comparing their painting techniques, artistic styles, themes, contents and spiritual values...to explore the epochal and historical significance of artistic creation,Wyeth’s pictures are composed and plain in color, with a lot of dark tones, mostly expressing respect for life and awe of nature in solemn tones;Joseph’s works are mainly sketching, with bright and layered colors. The colorful picture atmosphere is not only a capture of fleeting impression, but also an artistic interpretation of landscape aesthetics. My own watercolor painting study and creation are deeply influenced by them.During my study and research,I hope to show the picture space through warm and cold colors instead of simple rendering. The study and sketching practice of Joseph’s works has made me gradually change the observation mode, organize the picture with light, the environmental color is dominant, the color of shadows is full of changes, and the color used in the picture is free from the limitation of inherent colors and stylized expression.Wyeth’s dry-stroke method also has important inspiration for my creation. In the graduation creation, when depicting the tile houses, countryside and hay in my hometown, selective shaping is carried out,and factors that can express aesthetic feel ing are extracted for fine description,so that the aesthetic value of objective images can be better interpreted, memory and reality are intertwined, and pure imitation and unrealistic fantasy are put an end to.Dana classifies the reasons for the emergence and formation of art as objective factors such as society, environment, times and culture.Social system, time spirit and national culture will all influence the formation of artists’ creative ideas. The bumpy growth experience makes Wyeth lonely and sensitive from childhood, with metaphorical meaning;Joseph received a systematic and comprehensive education since childhood, and showed his talent and talent in painting. Most of his paintings were made of magnificent urban scenery, and the whole picture paid attention to the control of atmosphere and emotions. The experience of outdoor sketching all the year round deepened his concern for people and things outside the picture.Wyeth’s picture makes people feel the passage of time and is eternal;Joseph showed the immediacy of painting in the form of sketching by opening the distance of space. As masters of modern watercolor painting,Wyeth and Joseph are keen to depict things around them. The torrent of the times has not changed their original intention of creation.Their persistence in their own painting style and inheritance and innovation of traditional painting forms have influenced many painters in the future.Wyeth has long been used to avoiding other people’s opinions to ensure the purity of his painting language, while Joseph’s cheerful nature is keen to communicate painting-related issues with watercolor lovers all over the world.Whether he insists on his own creative habits or pays attention to the collision of different ideas and concepts,it is important to bring forth new ideas in the previous creative mode and lead the aesthetic development of the times forward.
