Hans Holbein the Younger was a famous portrait painter in the Renaissance period in northern Europe in the 16 th century. His religious paintings inherited the realistic painting style of Durer, but also had a traditional German spirit. In this paper, using the research method of imagology, mainly from five parts of the study of Hans Holbein’s religious paintings: introduction, introduction of the 16 th century Germany’s social and art overview; The second part sorts out the artistic career of holbein, which can be divided into three stages: early home school,Basel period and England period. The third part, carries on the pre-image analysis to his religious paintings, respectively from the picture subject, painting language(including composition, color, modeling three aspects)to introduce; The fourth and fifth parts are the focus of this paper. The fourth part, through the analysis of the symbols of Christianity and secular life used in his religious paintings,it can be seen that although the highly perfect divinity in his religious paintings is not completely eliminated, the realistic human color is increasingly prominent, conveying the concept of Renaissance humanism. The fifth part is the pictorial interpretation, through these religious paintings, the excavation of images behind the German culture, religion, politics, aesthetic and other aspects of The Times characteristics. We believe that compared with the paintings of Italy,France,Britain and other countries at the same time,Hans Holbein’s religious paintings pay more attention to national tradition, adhere to reason, and under the influence of Gothic art,pay more attention to the real description of details and the depiction of the inner world of the characters.Abandon divinity and pursue humanity in humanistic spirit; In the collision between scientific reason and religious sensibility, they are still attached to the expression of religious emotion. In the relationship between religion and secularity, unlike Italy and France, the enjoyment of secular life has a certain critical color. |
