The Reinvention Of Mythological Characters In Chinese Fantasy Films

Since the beginning of the new century,contemporary Chinese fantasy films have mushroomed,gaining unprecedented development under economic,market and cultural influences,and quickly becoming a major genre dominating the Chinese film market.The main creative method of contemporary Chinese fantasy films is to capture typical characters or plots from Chinese myths and legends and use them as the basis for developing stories.In this process,typical characters become the most important base point,and they are repeatedly portrayed,constantly polished and innovated,increasingly detached from the meaning of the myth itself and increasingly modernized.This article combines the theoretical approach of film scriptwriting with a systematic analysis of the mechanism of mythological character reinvention in Chinese fantasy films to explore a corner of Chinese mythological reconstruction.The article is divided into three chapters.Chapter 1 introduces the concept of fantasy film,and defines the contemporary Chinese fantasy films covered in the article.The definition of contemporary Chinese fantasy films.Chapter 2 is about the reinvention of mythological characters in contemporary Chinese fantasy films,analyzing how mythological characters are reinvented in contemporary Chinese fantasy films through three perspectives: the subversion of character archetypes,the construction of character relationships that break the mould,and Character shape becomes modern.In the Chapter 3,I briefly describe the transformation of my creative thinking by combining theory and my screenplay creation,and the method of shaping the main characters in my screenplay are invented in the context of new mythology is clarified.Finally,in the concluding section,I summarize the reinvention of characters in contemporary Chinese fantasy films,that is,contemporary creators seek a spiritual model for contemporary human coexistence with the world by exploring the overlapping parts of primitive culture and the spiritual pursuit of human beings in today’s world,and inject this spiritual model into the film characters,providing a strong support for the multicultural development of Chinese fantasy films.
