| John Baldesarri was an American contemporary artist whose work re-examines the plasticity of the artistic medium through the fusion of photography,painting and text,transforming popular culture and historical imagery into a reflection on image,language,appropriation and authenticity.Among the many artistic works of various forms in Baldessari,I selects his series of "dots" that combine photography and painting as a research case."dots" are the most distinctive symbols in his works of art."Dots" series of works have their own complexity due to the artist’s combination of concept,painting and photography.In the form of expression using photography as a medium,it has the potential of montage-style image narrative of conceptual photography.From the perspective of visual language,this paper explores the artist’s creative concept and practical significance through visual symbols,expressive techniques and the metaphorical meaning of images.In the context of consumer culture,the visual system formed by the occluded images in the "Dots" series is based on his reflections on the real society and history.He uses visual images in popular culture to construct a critique of the collective unconscious thinking mechanism in people’s daily viewing and narrative practice.He transferred philosophical and sociological research into images,which has obvious critical effects in the ever-changing contemporary life. |
