Adeline Virginia Woolf(1882-1941)was an English writer, regarded as one of the most important modernist writers of the 20 th century and a pioneer of the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device.Mrs Dalloway is a full-length stream-of-consciousness novel published in 1925,which mainly tells the daily activities and thoughts of Clarissa Dalloway,a British upper-class woman after World War I.This is one of Woolf’s most famous novels. In October 2005,Mrs.Dalloway was included in Time magazine’s list of the100 best Novels written in English since 1923.Since its publication, most scholars at home and abroad have studied the novel from the perspectives of psychoanalysis, sociology and feminist criticism.Ecofeminism is the combination of ecology and feminism.Ecofeminists believe that the oppression of women and the harm to nature are interrelated, and that the solution of ecological crisis is related to the liberation of women. They are committed to overthrowing the man-centric cultural and social system and trying to rewrite the historical fate of women and nature being ruled and exploited.Karen Warren’s ecofeminist theory holds that there is an important connection between unfair domination of women and unfair domination of nature. It also criticizes the dual domination of women and nature by the oppressive patriarchal conceptual framework.Based on Karen Warren’s ecofeminism theory, this thesis discusses the intimate relationship between women and nature in Mrs.Dalloway, and analyzes the patriarchal oppression on nature and women.Based on Karen Warren’s ecofeminism, this thesis analyzes the relationship among men, women and nature in Mrs.Dalloway.Firstly,the thesis discusses the intimate relationship between women and nature, including the similarity between women and nature in image, nature being more likely to be recognized and appreciated by women and women’ emotional changes are linked to nature.Among them, the similarity between women and nature in image will be narrated from two aspects: natural images are compared to women in many places in the novel, and women are compared to natural images. Then, this thesis analyzes the patriarchal oppression on nature and women.Among them, patriarchal oppression on nature will be narrated from two aspects: the damage of war on nature and the damage of industrialization on nature.Patriarchal oppression on women will also be narrated from two aspects: the oppression from society and the oppression from war.Thirdly, this thesis points out that the author longs for the progressive consciousness of harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature and the construction of a society of gender equality. Finally, the thesis points out in the conclusion that ecofeminism emphasizes the community of destiny, criticizes the difference of class and respects the vulnerable groups from its unique perspective. Its integrity and diversity contribute to the harmonious coexistence of man, nature and society.
