Clones’ Ethical Plight And Role Identification ——An Analysis Of Brave New World From The Perspective Of The Sci-Tech Ethics

Aldous Huxley was a famous British novelist who wrote many novels,essays,short stories,and films.Brave New World is one of his most famous science fiction novels published in 1932.This book contains a large number of technological factors,far ahead of the social development of science and technology at that time.The story of the novel is thought-provoking and has very important practical significance.The novel describes a highly centralized society monopolized by technology.The way of reproduction,family mode and education mode of this society is different from traditional society.Asexual reproduction replaces sexual reproduction,and humans can use a single sperm and egg in a machine to produce dozens of identical clones and even up to 96 babies.In this way of reproduction,the concept of family disappears completely.In addition,society divides the clones into more than a dozen castes which contain Alpha,Beta,Gamma,Delta and Epsilon.On the surface,people living in the new world,with the most advanced technology,can indulge their desires,and everyone is happy.While it stems from the social paralysis of their sense of self and the violation of their own rights.The whole society seems to be a picture of everyone living and working in peace and stability.Still,the disappearance of family patterns and chaotic love make society fall into a moral and ethical crisis.Although the novel was written in the last century,it still provides an important reference for modern society.This thesis first introduces Aldous Huxley’s life and works,as well as Brave New World and its significance,and then introduces the status quo of the work at home and abroad and the importance of its research.The second part is the theoretical basis of the thesis,which mainly expounds on the connotation and evolution of science and technology ethics,especially the connotation and extension of bioethics and gene ethics under science and technology ethics.The third part analyzes the ethical dilemma faced by clones from the perspective of bioethics,such as the deprivation of reproductive rights and career options,the disappearance of family,and the abnormal gender relations completely dominated by sex.The fourth part discusses the identity crisis of clones from the perspective of gene ethics.Some clones begin to rebel against the social system and seek self-value after awakening their self-consciousness.The fifth part is the conclusion of this thesis.Analyzing Brave New World from the perspective of science and technology ethics,it warns people that while pursuing the rapid development of science and technology,they should pay attention to respect human personality and dignity,pay attention to the development of ethics and morality to realize the“promotion of good and elimination of evil” for the development of science and technology,and let science and technology benefit all mankind.
