Racial minorities in the United States,African Americans,Hispanic Americans and American Indians in particular, have experienced more economic disadvantages compared with White Americans for quite a long time. This can be attributed to American politics because economic interests are related to political power. And political power is what minorities are short of compared with their white counterparts. In the early days of American founding,African Americans were enslaved and exploited, building wealth for the infant country. At this day,the political representation and participation are withheld from expanding political influence they deserve to protect their political rights and economic interests. It is the government who deliberately discriminates against racial minorities and adopts the political policies that excludes them from economic gains, while the political roots that nurtures the policies and practices was planted as early as in the Colonial Era,producing far-reaching effects. This thesis provides an analysis of how politics has shaped economic outcomes by race and ethnicity that eventually leads to racial economic inequality from the perspective of political roots in the country’s early stage and political behaviors since the 1970 s.The new dynamic of polarization in the contemporary US influences how parties and voters behave over issues of great significance, and because economy and race issues are important in American public opinions and political agendas, this makes racial economic inequality a great concern. But with limited political influence, racial minorities are thrown into passivity when defending their political rights and economic interests. To make great progress in closing racial economic gaps, there must be fundamental changes in American politics.Increasing minority political representation and participation is an essential step.Otherwise, with the growth of minority population, race relations are likely to be more intense.
