A Study On The 2007-2019 Djokovic And Federer’s Records:Correlations Between Key Points And Match Results

Djokovic and Federer,with their rankings on the World’s Top 3 lists,are both considered as the greatest tennis players,representing the highest level of men’s professional tennis.Studies on the two players are plenty though,previous ones are either on technical or on tactical aspect,rather a few manage to analyze their skills from the perspective of the ‘key point’ of their H2 H records as well as the game results.Therefore,this thesis attempts to focus on the key-point differentiation and classification.Through studying the key points’ influence on the game result of 2007-2019 Djokovic vs.Federer’s 44 top competitions by way of documentary method,video observation and mathematical statistics,the author analyzes the correlations between the key points and the results of the matches in each Djokovic’s batting conditions,namely,his serve,receive and tiebreak etc.The key findings are as follows:(1)In terms of hypothetical research on key points,it is true that there are certain ranges and categories of key points in tennis matches,and different key points can have different influences on the results of matches under different circumstances.(2)In terms of Djokovic’s key-point scoring rates through his serve,receive and tiebreak,characteristics may vary in each season,yet the three different key-point scoring rates eventually can make up for one another,making his overall key-point scoring rates remain high.(3)Concerning the key points’ influence on the result of the games,there is a significant difference between Djokovic’s game points in service games and the overall scoring rates of the three key points in winning and losing games.The higher the scoring rates of these two key points,the greater the probability of winning.(4)Studying on the key points’ influence upon the game results in receiving games,the author finds the existence of a significant difference in Djokovic’s game data,including the leading,equal and break points’ key point rates respectively in the receiving games as well as the total scoring rates of the three key points: chances of winning are more if the key points get higher.(5)In terms of the key points’ influence on the outcome of the match in tiebreak,the finding is that the scoring rates of Djokovic’s game-winning break points are higher than that in the losses,and it is of great significance to the match results.(6)Studying on the correlations between the key-points on different court types and the results,the author finds that it is on hard or clay court that Djokovic scores significantly more leading points in winning matches than that of in losing matches,therefore,court type is also an important factor for winning a game.Whereas the overall scoring rates of all three different key points on grass court wins are lower than the negatives,indicating that the final results do not necessarily depend on the key-point scoring rates: whatever court type it may be,whoever wins the game,Djokovic’s equal key-point scoring rates remained high and stable.(7)About the three kinds of key points’ influence as a whole on the match results,there is a significant difference between the leading key points and the three kinds of key points both in winning and losing games,showing that these two kinds of key points are important to winning a match: the higher the scoring rates of such key points,the greater the probability of winning a match.
