| Objective:Explore the mechanism of how physical activity influence academic procrastination of college students,and the influence and mechanism of 6-week badminton intervention on academic procrastination of college students.Methods:First of all,270 non-sports undergraduate students from a university were selected for questionnaire survey,taking the convenient sampling method with the form of physical activity scale,the self-control scale form of college students,and the questionnaire of college students’academic procrastination.Based on the collected data,construct an intermediary model of self-control between sports activities and college students’academic procrastination;secondly,from the above270 college students mentioned,31 college students were selected in the different degree,including with low physical exercise volume,moderate or above academic procrastination and moderate or below self-control ability,randomly arranged to the badminton intervention group(4 boys and 12 girls)and the control group(4 boys and11 girls).Using a single factor mixed experiment design,inter-group variable is the type of intervention(badminton vs no intervention),within group variable is the measurement of time points(baseline,3 week,6th week),the dependent variable is academic procrastination,intermediary variable is self-control.The badminton exercise intervention group implemented 6 weeks,3 times a week,50 minutes of moderate intensity badminton intervention each time;On the contrary,the control group did not intervene.The mediator and dependent variables when measuring baseline,weekend 3,and weekend 6.Results:1)Self-control plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between physical activity and academic procrastination of college students,with a mediating effect value of-0.19 in a 95%CI of[-0.29,-0.11],accounting for 57.56%of the total effect.However,the mediating effects of the specific components of self-control on physical activity and academic procrastination are various in different dimensions.In terms of the impulse-control dimension,the mediating effect between physical activity and academic procrastination in reviewing and preparing for exams was significant,with a mediating effect value of-0.04 in a 95%CI of[-0.08,-0.01],while the mediating effect between academic procrastination in homework and independent learning was not significant.In terms of dimension of healthy habits,the intermediary effect of physical activities and three dimensions of the intermediary effect are significant:the mediation effect value of the intermediary effect in reviewing and preparing for exams is-0.05 with 95%CI of[-0.10,-0.02],the mediation effect value of academic procrastination in homework is-0.05 with 95%CI of[-0.10,-0.02],the mediation effect value of independent learning is-0.04 with 95%CI of[-0.09,-0.01].In terms of dimension of resisting temptation,the intermediary effect value of physical activity and academic procrastination in homework is-0.04,95%CI of[-0.08,-0.01];the mediation effect value of academic procrastination of independent learning is-0.03,95%CI of[-0.07,-0.01].In terms of the focus of learning dimension,the intermediary effect of physical activities and three dimensions of academic procrastination are significant,the mediation effect value of academic procrastination in reviewing and preparing for exams is-0.12,95%CI of[-0.19,-0.06];the mediation effect value of academic procrastination in homework is-0.10,95%CI of[-0.17,-0.05],the mediation effect value of academic procrastination in independent learning is-0.12,95%CI of[-0.20,-0.07].As far as the abstinence of entertainment,there is no significant intermediary effect in the three dimensions of academic procrastination and physical activity.2)six weeks of the intervention badminton exercise can improve the ability of resisting temptation in students[F(1,26)=4.774,p<.05,partialη2.=155],and the ability of focusing on learning(work)[F(1,26)=10.346,p<.01,partialη2.=285]and overall self-control[F(1,26)=7.784,p<.05,partialη2.=230];reduce the academic procrastination in reviewing and preparing for exams[F(1,26)=14.054,p<.01,partialη2.=.351],in homework[F(1,26)=8.264,p<.01,partialη2.=.241],in independent learning[F(1,26)=13.883,p<.01,partialη2.=348]and overall academic procrastination[F(1,26)=16.113,p<.01,partialη2.=383].3)Badminton exercise reduces academic procrastination of college students,and self-control plays no mediating role in it.Conclusion:Physical activity has a significantly negative and predictive role in the academic procrastination of college students,and self-control is regarded as one of the most potential mechanisms;The badminton exercise intervention in six weekends is beneficial to improve the self-control ability of college students,meanwhile,which reduce the times of college students’ academic procrastination. |
