The total fertility rate has been lower than the replacement level in China for nearly 30 years. Therefore,China began to implement the selective two-child policy at the end of 2013 and the universal two-child policy at early 2016 respectively to achieve the appropriate level of childbearing, but the results were not satisfactory. This phenomenon may be related to people’s fertility anxiety of “don’t dare to have children”caused by concerns about the high cost of childbirth. At the same time, the rapid rise in housing prices and the increasingly important role of housing in marriage have created tremendous house purchasing pressure on young people. Will the increase in youth’s house purchasing pressure cause and how to cause fertility anxiety? How to relieve youth anxiety? All are of great social significance.By collating and analyzing the existing literature, this study introduces social fairness perception and subjective well-being as mediating variables, and then uses the data obtained from a questionnaire survey of 323 young people in Chongqing to construct a structural equation model to test the influence path of house purchasing pressure on fertility anxiety. And this study draws three influence paths: 1)house purchasing pressure positively affects fertility anxiety directly;2)house purchasing pressure negatively affects subjective well-being,thereby increasing fertility anxiety;3)house purchasing pressure can negatively affect social fairness perception, and the weakening of social fairness perception will reduce youth’s subjective well-being and cause fertility anxiety. Also, this study adds age, gender, income, and education as control variables to the model, and finds that there are inflection points in the effects of age on house purchasing pressure, social fairness perception, subjective well-being,and fertility anxiety, and the inflection points are concentrated in 27-32 years old;an increase in income will lead to a greater demand for child quality, and therefore has a positive direct impact on youth’s fertility anxiety, but it can also indirectly reduce fertility anxiety by improving fairness perception and subjective happiness;women’s house purchasing pressure and fertility anxiety are higher than men’s.Finally, this study also gives some policy suggestions on how to reduce the youth’s house purchasing pressure and fertility anxiety, and improve their social fairness perception and subjective happiness: accelerate tenants to enjoy the same rights as buyers, and enhance the fungibility of renting and buying houses;disperse the industries of large cities to small and medium cities, and improve public resources and infrastructure of the latter;improve the mechanism of primary distribution and redistribution of income to reduce income inequality;improve the quality of public education and pay attention to the advancement and diversified development of public schools;further increase the maternity protection and employment security for women, and implement shared maternity leave for families.
