Our country’s economy has been driven mainly by investment and export from the reform and opening up.However,in recent years,in the context of the financial crisis, the trade war between China and the United States, and the COVID-19,our country must bring into full play of the consumption in promoting economic growth.as the only economy in the world to achieve positive economic growth, will undoubtedly play an important role in consumption.Compared with urban residents, rural residents have more consumption potential. In fact, the consumption level and consumption preference of people of different ages and different family structures are greatly different, which finally presents the alienated consumption behavior of business trip. Then what is the relationship between the population age structure and the consumption behavior of rural households? To explore this issue, this paper, based on the micro survey data of rural residents in Jiangxi Province in 2019,studies the relationship between the population age structure and the consumption behavior of rural residents through qualitative and quantitative analysis, starting from the two dimensions of the ratio of the elderly population in rural households and the ratio of the school-age population. The paper reviewed and sorted the relevant domestic and foreign literature.Firstly, the paper makes some theoretical analysis about the influence on the population age structure of residents’ consumption level and consumption structure.Secondly, with the micro data obtained from the field survey in rural areas of Jiangxi Province, the paper makes a statistical description and analysis of the age structure, family size, household head, income structure, consumption level and consumption structure of the family population.Thirdly, the empirical part uses the micro survey data to analyze the impact of our country ’s population structure change on the consumption level and structure of residents. At last, the author put forward some relevant policy recommendations. The research conclusions are as follows. Both the elderly population ratio and the young child ratio have negative impact on the household consumption rate. The effect of population age structure on household consumption rate is heterogeneous at different income levels. In the low-income group, the ratio of the elderly population and the ratio of the young population were not significant. In the higher income group, both the ratio of elderly population and young population have significant inhibitory effects on the household consumption rate at the 1% level, and the effect of elderly population ratio is more stronger than the young population ratio. The proportion of elderly population significantly inhibits the proportion of other expenditure, the proportion of young population promotes proportion of food expenditure and culture, education and entertainment expenditure, and significantly inhibits the proportion of housing expenditure and transportation and communication expenditure significantly. The elderly population ratio significantly inhibits the proportion of other types of expenditure in low-income families, and significantly promotes the proportion of medical care expenditure in high-income families. The proportion of children’s population in the low-income group and the high-income group has a significant promoting effect on the proportion of cultural, educational and entertainment expenditure, and the promoting effect of the low-income group is stronger. |
