The cross-cultural adaptation is an important part of cross-cultural communication and a realistic problem that must be considered in the global cross-cultural context. It is worthy of further study.Cross-cultural adaptation mainly refers to a series of changes that occur after individuals enter a new culture, including behavior habits, life style, values and other contents. It is a dynamic process of two-way development. When an individual leaves the familiar environment and enters another cultural environment,he will inevitably face the collision of the two cultural systems.Adaptation is a process of stripping away the cultural memory integrated with the individual and rebuilding a kind of order. At the same time,it is also a process of seeking a balance between the two cultures. From the individual point of view, intercultural adaptation internal is a complicated problem, every living person has different individual differences, the cognitive emotion and behavior are influenced by many factors, show different adaptation condition, and the researchers need from different individual behavior outlined in the common features, find out the universal laws,so as to solve the sojourners face a variety of behavioral and psychological problems. In this paper, north African students from Universities in Gansu province were selected as the research objects, and the adaptation of this group in diet, language and environment was investigated by means of quantitative research and qualitative interview. The quantitative research uses the data statistical analysis software SPSS(25.0)to explain all aspects of students’ adaptation through descriptive analysis, difference analysis, correlation analysis;Qualitative research adopts the form of semi-structured interview, turns speech into text, further analyzes language materials.Based on the investigation, the structure of this paper is divided into six parts. The first chapter is the introduction: This chapter mainly explains the topic selection background, research significance, domestic and foreign research status and other issues, and explains the key concepts involved in this paper. The second chapter focuses on the food adaptation of students from North Africa. It mainly includes four parts, namely the introduction of Gansu food culture, the description of the overall situation of food adaptation of students from North Africa, the difference analysis of food adaptation of different groups, the interview results and analysis. The third chapter analyzes students’ language adaptation, which is mainly divided into three aspects: classroom language, interpersonal language and public language environment.Firstly,it introduces the language and culture of Gansu, especially Lanzhou.Secondly,it analyzes the difference between the overall situation of language adaptation of North African students and the language adaptation of different groups. Finally,it explains the correlation between classroom language, interpersonal language and public language environment adaptation.Chapter four:Environmental adaptation.Environmental adaptation is divided into natural environment and social environment, which are divided into five parts. They are the overview of Gansu’s geographical and cultural environment, the overall description of north African students’ environmental adaptation, the analysis of the differences between different groups’ adaptability, the correlation analysis of natural environment and social environment adaptation, and the interview results and analysis. The fifth chapter analyzes the causes and influencing factors of cross-cultural adaptation of North African students in colleges and universities in Gansu, and puts forward some suggestions from the aspects of urban colleges and universities and students. The sixth chapter is the last chapter, which further explains the conclusion, innovation and research prospect of the paper, and also puts forward the final foothold of the paper:cross-cultural adaptation research is not to highlight differences, but to seek for human commonness, eliminate misunderstanding and promote common development.Through the investigation,it is found that the north African students’ cross-cultural adaptation in Gansu’s universities is relatively good, and they tend to be "satisfied" on the whole, the main adaptive mode is integration, and their dietary and environmental adaptation is better than their language adaptation.North African countries more than 70% of people believe in Islam, the religion, eating habits and daily behavior have more taboo,These taboos and differences are a big problem for north African students. In terms of diet, most north African countries take bread as the staple food with light taste and eat with knife and fork or hand,so they are quite different from the traditional Chinese diet. However, all kinds of pasta from northwest China are highly accepted by students from North Africa, and they all like it very much.In terms of language,Gansu is located in the northwest dialect area, and the dialects vary greatly from region to region, which leads to many problems of international students’ interpersonal communication language. In essence,Chinese and Arabic belong to two different language families.Chinese is a typical isolated language, while Arabic is a inflected language. There are many differences in pronunciation and grammar, which make the use of the two languages and the cultures they carry present different differences. The problem of environmental adaptation is mainly reflected in the adaptation of natural environment. Most north African countries have a tropical climate, and even the coldest weather is above 15 degrees.Due to the special geographical location in northwest China, the winter temperature is mostly below zero degrees Celsius, which has become a major adaptation difficulty for students. However, relatively speaking, due to the large number of Muslims in Gansu, they provide more support for North African students in terms of religion and diet, thus alleviating students’ psychological pressure to a certain extent. Therefore, generally speaking, the problem of acculturation of North African students in universities in Gansu is relatively small. In the further exploration, this paper believes that regional cultural differences and information asymmetry between universities and students are the main causes of cross-cultural adaptation of North African overseas students, while personality, motivation to study abroad, demographic factors, identity and social media are the internal and external factors that affect their cross-cultural adaptation.
