Yangtze River Delta is one of the regions with the most dynamic economy, the highest degree of openness, the strongest innovation ability, and the largest absorbing foreign population. It is also an important growth pole for the development of sports industry in China.Yangtze River Delta region is rich in sports element resources.More and more provinces and cities choose to collect and reorganize sports resources through industrial agglomeration in order to improve the efficiency of resource utilization. But at the same time, industrial agglomeration will also bring about "crowding effect",which will have a negative impact on industrial output efficiency. Therefore,in the context of the high-quality development of sports industry, how to effectively improve the quality and benefits of sports industry in Yangtze River Delta through the form of industrial agglomeration and play the spillover effect of industrial agglomeration has very important practical significance.Based on the relevant data of 41 cities in three provinces and one city in Yangtze River Delta from 2014 to 2017,this paper uses the location entropy index to measure the degree of agglomeration of sports industry in Yangtze River Delta. The DEA-Malmquist index method is used to measure the core index to measure the quality of industrial development--total factor productivity. The spatial measurement model is used to thoroughly investigate the agglomeration effect, crowding effect and spillover effect of the agglomeration of sports industry in Yangtze River Delta. The main conclusions are:(1)Both sports manufacturing industry and sports service industry in Yangtze River Delta have obvious spatial correlations. However, regardless of the size or significance of the Moran Index, sports manufacturing industry is significantly worse than sports service industry, indicating that the concentration of sports service industry is more prominent. The "high-high" agglomeration areas of sports manufacturing industry in Yangtze River Delta are mainly concentrated in the cities along the eastern coast of Zhejiang, while sports service industry is still based on the "unipolar" spatial distribution pattern with Shanghai as the agglomeration center. The multi-core and networklike spatial structure of sports service industry in Yangtze River Delta has not yet been formed.(2)A certain degree of "crowding effect" has appeared in sports manufacturing industry in Yangtze River Delta. The agglomeration of sports manufacturing industry reduces the total factor productivity of sports manufacturing industry. The location entropy of sports manufacturing industries in cities such as Ningbo,Nantong,Taizhou and Wenzhou are all more than 1,with a high degree of agglomeration. However, their total factor productivity dropped by 4.2%,5.4%,5.5%and 9.3% from 2014 to 2017.This may be due to many factors such as vicious price competition, rising labor prices, environmental pressures for energy conservation, emission reduction, strong reproducibility of production technology and high cost of enterprise innovation.Sports manufacturing industry in Yangtze River Delta is in urgent need of transformation and upgrading.(3)The agglomeration of sports service industry in Yangtze River Delta has not improved the total factor productivity of sports service industry. The agglomeration of sports service industry in Yangtze River Delta is still in its infancy. It mainly relies on the spatial agglomeration of sports service companies and the superposition of sports service formats to achieve industrial growth. The main driving force for its development is factor input growth rather than efficiency growth. From 2014-2017,the total factor productivity of sports service industry in Yangtze River Delta increased by only 1.2%.This article believes that the main reasons for the failure of the agglomeration effect of sports service industry in Yangtze River Delta are following. The first is about limited development by stages. The second is the factors rooted in the industry agglomeration in some regions are poor. The third is the industrial chain of internal production collaboration has not yet been formed. The last but not least, the trading mechanism of sports service resource has not yet been activated.(4)The agglomeration of sports manufacturing industry in Yangtze River Delta does not show obvious spatial spillovers, while the agglomeration of sports service industry promotes the total factor productivity of sports service industry in neighboring cities and reflects a positive spatial spillover effect. The first is that there is a large "development potential difference" between core cities of sports service industry and neighboring cities, which gives sports service industry agglomeration of overflow space. The second is the high level of transportation, information, and digitalization in Yangtze River Delta creates favorable space for the knowledge overflowing with a "demonstration effect" on surrounding cities. The third is the high degree of industrial relevance of sports service industry, especially through the connection of natural resources. It is easy to form a shared source market and industrial cooperation with the surrounding neighboring areas so as to improve the development efficiency of sports service industry in neighboring areas.Based on the above conclusions, this article proposes the following suggestions.Firstly, the regional layout of sports manufacturing industry in Yangtze River Delta should be optimized to avoid crowding effects.Secondly,it is necessary to accelerate the digital and intelligent transformation and upgrading of sports manufacturing industry in Yangtze River Delta.Thirdly, release the agglomeration effect of sports service industry to promote total factor productivity. The fourth is to innovate the coordinated development mechanism of sports service industry in Yangtze River Delta to amplify the spillover effect.
