| Discounting is a concept in transactional analysis, which refers to unconsciously ignoring information related to problem-solving.There are three types of discounting(stimuli, problems and options)and four modes of discounting(existence, significance, change possibilities, and personal abilities).A 3*4 discounting matrix can be formed by matching these three types with four modes.Discounting can be identified by verbal cues and non-verbal cues.Junior high school students can not completely rely on their own ability to solve problems. This study attempts to identify the discounting of junior high school students in school life, and help junior high school teachers to increase their awareness of students’ obstacles in solving problems so that they can help students to solve problems with more rational and objective thinking, feeling, and personal abilities. This study consists of two parts: Study 1,junior high school students’ discounting questionnaire was developed through interviews with 6 teachers,a predictive test of119 junior high school students, and a formal test of 319 junior high school students.Study 2,Using the compiled discounting questionnaire and school adaptation questionnaire among 178 junior high school students;to understand the current situation of junior high school students’ discounting, and combining the students’ school adaptation and academic performance,to understand the relationship between students’ discounting level and school adaptation or academic performance. This study get the following conclusions:1.The "Junior High School Students’ Discounting Questionnaire" has good reliability and validity and can be used to test the level of junior high school students’ discounting.2.In schools, boys’ discounting levels are significantly higher than girls’;non-city students’ discounting levels are significantly higher than that of local students.3.There is no significant difference in discounting levels in different grades and between only children and non-only children;4.Junior high school students’ discounting can negatively predict the level of school adaptation and academic performance. That is,the lower the level of discounting, the higher the level of school adaptation and the better academic performance. This research verifies the feasibility of applying the concept of discounting to group assessment, provides a new tool for junior high school teachers and students to identify obstacles in solving problems, and provides a new direction for teachers and parents to guide students in problem-solving. |
