| At present, improving residents’ happiness has become the main goal of China’s future social and economic development. In just ten years, the process of urbanization in China has been advancing at an unimaginable speed, but the “urban diseases”brought about have also caused great burdens and challenges to the operation of cities.Because of its role,“smart city” has become a new answer for China to solve “urban diseases” while developing cities. Therefore,in the context of serious social involution, the continuous expansion of social resource distribution and income gaps, clarifying the relationship and mechanism of smart city construction on the happiness of urban residents will not only help comprehensively deepen reforms, but also effectively satisfy the people. The needs of the masses and improving the quality of life and happiness of residents have certain practical significance for the direction of future smart city construction. This article focuses on analyzing whether the construction of smart cities can increase the happiness of residents, and what mechanisms and paths are used to achieve it.After combing the related literature on smart cities and residents’ well-being,this article analyzes the influence mechanism of the relationship between the two and believes that the construction of smart cities affects residents’ well-being through three ways: health effects, convenience effects and development effects. Then, this article can see from the reality of China’s smart city construction and residents’ well-being that there is a certain time and space coupling between the two.According to the realistic characteristics of smart city construction and residents’ well-being,and based on other people’s literature and related well-being theory, this paper selects 14 individual characteristic indicators and adopts entropy method to calculate the comprehensive well-being index of urban residents. Finally,by using relevant data of the 2016 China Labor Force Survey Data(CLDS),the “2016 China Smart City Development Level Assessment Report”,the“2017 China City Statistical Yearbook”and “2016 China City and Industrial Innovation Report”,and adopting the method of“Tobit + heteroscedasticity robust standard error”,this paper empirically tests the effects and transmission channels of smart city construction on the well-being of urban residents, and makes a heterogeneity analysis. The empirical results show that:1.Smart city construction can positively affect the well-being of urban residents. There are three impact channels: environmental effect, convenience effect and development effect.2.Urban hierarchical differences and population heterogeneity will also lead to some differences among related groups or regions affected by the construction of smart cities. In addition to third-tier cities in China, the first-tier to fifth-tier cities are gradually less affected by the construction of smart cities.Low-income,low-middle-class,middle-high and high-income groups are differently affected by smart city construction, and the more assets they hold, the higher their happiness.Under the background of smart city construction, men are more affected by smart city construction than women, and the improvement of women’s education level improves their happiness more significantly than men.Except for groups in the struggle period of life, the well-being of long-term generation, stable life, and enjoyment of life groups are all improved under the influence of urban wisdom construction, and so on.Based on the above analysis, this paper puts forward countermeasures from three aspects: the input of relevant resources, focusing on some construction directions and investment projects, and the construction of differentiated products and services,in order to provide reference for the direction of smart city construction and the improvement of people’s well-being in the future. In this paper, there are innovations in the individual index of the comprehensive index measure of well-being selection and research results. When selecting individual indicators to measure residents’ well-being,based on subjective, psychological and social well-being evaluation scale, combined with residents’ actual sense of achievement, this paper measures the well-being of urban residents from five aspects:personal economy, social and family relationship, life stress, life value realization, mental health and living environment. As a result, the comprehensive well-being index is more horizontally comparable, and it is more likely to show that this is the overall well-being of the individual in this year, weakening the changeability. In terms of research conclusions, this paper selects the data samples that can locate the city, and adds more appropriate individual characteristic variables and macroeconomic variables in the empirical study,so as to make the results more credible and useful. The results show that the government should pay attention to improving the ecological environment, making urban services more convenient, and providing better development opportunities in the context of smart city construction. In addition,middle-income families and women’s happiness is not affected by the construction of smart cities, and groups in the struggle period of life are also not sensitive to the construction of smart cities. The impact of housing prices on residents’ well-being is still too large and should be controlled. |
