China has entered the stage of high quality development,and higher education is bound to build a new development pattern.The construction of majors is the core element of university development and the basic unit of talent training.It is the crucial part of university development to build first-class and certified majors,and it is also the ensurance of the upgrading from a higher-education country to a powerful higher-education country.The major of physical education of Xinjiang Normal University has long-standing history and clearly-identified goals.It has the leading edge among parallel universities,which contributes greatly to the development of teaching locally,but researches in this field have been rarely conducted so far.Therefore,this study takes the construction of physical education major in Xinjiang Normal University as the research object,analyzes the division and orientation of its development stage,talent training program,teachers and students and other aspects by means of documentary method,interview method,mathematical statistics method and other research methods.The conclusion is as follows:(1)Since the system of majors was established,the major has been divided into four development stages,and the goals of which is rather clarified.China’s strong support for the western region is the premise of the construction of this major,and the faculty force,specialty characteristics and orientation,students’ number and quality,and guidelines for education are the key factors for the construction of this major.(2)The training objectives,training specifications(graduation requirements),credit hours and credits of the fifth edition of the talent training program for 2010-2021 are inaccurate,untimely,inconsistent in talent targeting,and too much emphasis on a certain standard,showing a trend of continuous improvement.(3)The teachers of the professional education courses of this major come from multiple ethnic groups and attach great importance to teacher training.Their age,educational background and professional title structure are reasonable,while the education related structure is unreasonable.The increasing number of the retired teachers and about-to-retired teachers may impact the number of teaching faculty.From 2011 to 2021,the scientific research achievements of teachers in the professional education courses of this major are embodied in five aspects,researches,works,patents,papers and conferences.Most of the researches have the characteristics of Xinjiang,and the scientific research vision is not broad enough,and the teachers engaged in scientific research are few and overlapped.(4)The enrollment of this major will gradually increase from 2017 to 2021.In 2020,the actual enrollment number exceeded the planned enrollment number for the first time,and the number of students in the athletic skills course is more than 25,affecting the teaching quality;The diversity of ethnic structure of students in this major ensures that the teaching quality reflects the characteristics and orientation of targeted training of preparatory undergraduates.In the end,the study suggests:(1)With the background of the new pattern of western Development in the new era,seize the opportunity to continuously strengthen professional construction.(2)The major system should be improved in multiple dimensions according to the “Implementation Measures for Teacher Professional Certification in Ordinary Institutions of Higher Learning(Interim)”(hereinafter referred to as “Teacher Professional Certification”)and “National Standard for Teaching Quality of Undergraduate Major in Ordinary Institutions of Higher Learning”(hereinafter referred to as “national Standard”).(3)In view of the current situation that there are many retired teachers of professional education courses in this major for a period of time,it is necessary to recruit or introduce high-level talents,and strengthen the requirements for teachers with potential middle and primary professional titles to promote their professional titles within an appropriate period of time.And reduce the number of teachers who stay on campus and create incentives for more teachers of professional education courses to engage in research and broaden their research horizons beyond Xinjiang.We cooperate with elite professional colleges and universities of the same kind at home and abroad to strengthen the training of teachers and students by combining “going out and inviting in”,so as to ensure the reasonability of age,professional title,scientific research of the teaching staff,academic background and educational background.(4)Continue to expand professional enrollment regions and recruit high-quality students,strengthening preparatory students’ education to foster more excellent sports talents in Xinjiang,and promote the development of local physical education and the spread of Traditional Chinese sports culture.(5)In order to limit the number of students in the athletic skills course to25,it is necessary to increase the number of full-time teachers for group teaching and build relevant sports teaching sites and facilities to guarantee the teaching quality.
