Abstract/Summary:
Nowadays teacher professional development is often implemented over networks,especially social media,which stimulated the emergence of filling a large gap in their professional development and learning.Social media has great potential to enable personalized learning,therefore more and more pre-service physical education teachers are taking the initiative to engage in social media for professional development.However,current research has mostly focused on in-service teachers,pre-service physical education teachers’ perceptions of social media have been the subject of relatively little research.Based on this,this study first used a literature-based approach to review domestic and international research on social media in physical education to lay the theoretical foundation for theoretic structure exploration and scale design;on the basis of in-depth interviews with 17 pre-service physical education teachers,qualitative research,based on as grounded theory were used to conduct a preliminary exploration of the structure system of social media perception from pre-service physical education teachers,so as to lay the foundation for scale design;finally,a questionnaire survey was conducted to preservice physical education teachers in China for verify the reliability and validity of the scale.Secondly,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 977 pre-service physical education teachers in China to verify the reliability of the scale.Finally,the Preservice Physical Education Teachers’ Social Media Perceptions Scale with good reliability was formed;The final result was the Pre-service Physical Education Teachers’ Social Media Perception Scale with good reliability;Thus,the mixed research results were summarized,which showed that:1.Through the process of open coding,spindle coding,selective coding,and theoretical saturation testing of the rooted theoretical research method,a structural system of preservice physical education teachers’ social media perceptions,including 3aspects,10 dimensions,70 concepts,and 307 items,was constructed,including overall perception(interface perception,element perception,status quo perception,and trend perception),value perception(information value perception,interactive value perception,and function perception),and risk perception(psychological risk perception,information risk perception,and privacy risk perception).2.Based on the explored structural system,the social media perception scale for preservice physical education teachers with good reliability and validity was developed to comply with the requirements of psychometrics,which provides an effective tool for measuring social media perception preservice physical education teachers.The scale contains three dimensions: overall perception,value perception,and risk perception.Among them,there are 10 items in the overall perception dimension,9 items in the value perception dimension,and 7 items in the risk perception dimension.3.China should strengthen the research on preservice physical education teachers’ social media perceptions,continuously enrich the results in the field of preservice physical education teachers’ research,form a more accurate measurement scale of preservice physical education teachers’ social media perceptions,and increase the promotion and application across the country.By providing objective data and scientific basis,and considering various elements,we can propose scientific and objective references for the modernization of preservice physical education teachers’ education and professional development.
