| The transition between early childhood education and primary education is the first major academic challenge that young children face in their lives.In recent years,our country has paid more attention to the transition from kindergarten to primary school;the form and content of the transition has been further standardized,and the regulation of out-of-school institutions has moved the transition work back to the daily activities in kindergartens.However,there are still a lot of problems with the transition activities in kindergartens.The most prominent one is the lack of bridging courses and development of learning qualities related to transition between early childhood education and primary education in daily activities.This paper therefore aims to explore the implementation of the transition from kindergarten to primary school by designing the scaffold for block building game with digital demonstration and investigating its impact on the learning qualities development of children in supporting block building game.Our study conducted the design of the scaffold for block building game based on the self-constructed games with prescribed themes in kindergartens.In the design,digital demonstrations using 3D modeling technology were applied as substitutions for the original kindergarten demonstration methods.Through the experimental method and action research method,we observed 129 children aged 5-6 years constructing five kinds of works with different levels of complexity,recorded and analyzed the game situation of each group during the experiments to investigate the development of children’s learning qualities after the use of scaffold for block building game with digital demonstration.The study found that the use of scaffold for block building game with digital demonstration could cultivate the continuity of intentional attention and improve the children’s capacity to concentrate;it could enhance children’s independent problem solving ability;it also had a positive effect on the development of the children’s expressive skills.This suggested that the use of scaffold for block building game could help develop the learning literacies required for the transition from early childhood to primary school.The use of digital demonstration is better than traditional demonstrations in several aspects.In other words,digital demonstration can be a complementary,alternative solution to traditional demonstration method.Although the use of digital demonstration in block building game can be beneficial,there are still many difficulties in practice.For example,there are many forms and connotations of block building game,and the scaffold for block building game is only designed for self-constructed games with prescribed themes,which means its versatility is limited.Some teachers may have difficulties in designing and modeling digital demonstrations due to their age,learning ability,and familiarity with digital technology.In conclusion,we should continuously optimize the design of the scaffold for block building games in the future.Furthermore,we also need to discover simpler supporting tools and easier-to understand tutorials,so as to make full use of the role of block building game. |
