Social anxiety refers to the anxiety,fear and avoidance behaviors caused by the fear of being noticed by others in interpersonal communication.Secondary vocational students are in the special period of adolescence,easy to appear social anxiety.At present,social networking sites have become an important tool for secondary vocational students to communicate with each other.Studies show that upward social comparison on social networking sites is one of the important factors affecting social anxiety.Individual behaviors are not only affected by the external environment,but also by individual differences.Therefore,this study aims to introduce self-concept clarity as a moderating variable into the study on the influence of upward social comparison on social anxiety on social networking sites.Furthermore,group counseling was used to improve self-concept clarity of secondary vocational students to reduce the impact of social comparison on social anxiety.In study 1,a total of 1416 secondary vocational students were surveyed using the Social Networking Upward Social Comparison Scale,Self-Concept Clarity Scale and Social Anxiety Scale.PROCESS was used to test whether self-concept clarity plays a moderating role in upward social comparison and social anxiety on social networking sites.The final results are as follows :(1)there are significant differences in gender and grade of social anxiety;There were significant gender differences in self-concept clarity.(2)There is a significant correlation between upward social comparison,selfconcept clarity and social anxiety.(3)Self-concept clarity plays a moderating role in upward social comparison and social anxiety on SNS.Study 2 was based on the results of study 1.In order to test the effectiveness of group counseling program,29 subjects with high level of social anxiety were tested by pre-test and post-test design in the experimental group and control group.The results showed that :(1)the experimental group and control group could be regarded as homogeneity before group counseling.(2)After 8 weeks of group counseling intervention,the self-concept clarity of the experimental group was significantly improved.(3)The negative impact of upward social comparison on social anxiety can be reduced by improving the self-concept clarity level of the experimental group.The results of study 1 verified the effect of upward social comparison on social anxiety of secondary vocational students,and clarified its influence mechanism.In study 2,the participants’ self-concept clarity could be improved through group counseling activities,thus reducing the impact of upward social comparison on social anxiety.According to the research results,some suggestions can be put forward :(1)proper use of social networking sites to reduce upward social comparison;(2)Improve the level of individual self-concept clarity;(3)Guide students to correctly deal with social anxiety.
