How to understand science is not only the basic theoretical problem of philosophy of science research, but also the meta-theoretical problem of philosophy research. To think about science,we should not only start from science itself to explore the structural characteristics, development mode and justification logic of science theory, but also reveal the theoretical domain and perspective of thinking about science.Since the 1960 s,the research paradigm of historicism, the development model of dynamic theory, and the relativistic justification logic have been widely used in scientific inquiry. The theoretical perspective of scientific reflection is also dominated by the modes of cultural theory, sociology and naturalism. The historical study of science, the perspective of cultural theory and sociology, and the construction of naturalistic program all enrich the understanding of science from different aspects and deepen the exploration of the nature of science. However, the above exploration also weakens the overall consideration of science based on human survival experience by focusing on revealing the single characteristics of science.Oakeshott,a famous British philosopher, constructed a coherent theory of empiricism based on his empirical interpretation of reality. He believes that reality is experience, and the world in which people live is a world of facts. There is no reality outside of experience, and what is outside of experience is unknowable, and the essential characteristic of experience is coherence.Based on the theory of coherent empiricism, oakeshott analyzed the theory of science and put forward that science is a limited empirical model, and the basic characteristics of science are stability and speakability. In order to fully grasp the theoretical essence of oakeshott's view of science, explain the theoretical significance of his view of science. This paper traces the theoretical origin of coherent empiricism, and analyzes the theoretical connotation of coherent empiricism from the dimensions of truth and reality.Starting from the theory of coherent empiricism, the stability and the characteristics of the theory of coherent empiricism are condensed.Based on the relationship between limited experience and holistic experience, the author further describes the characteristics of coherentempiricism of science through the comparison between scientific experience and philosophical experience, and the comparison between scientific experience and historical experience and practical experience. Finally,it makes an overall evaluation of the scientific view of coherent empiricism and further explores its theoretical significance.
