The Application Of Nandan Baikuyao Clothing Elements In "pan-outdoor" Clothing Design

This paper aims to investigate the rationale of traditional folk clothing and the innovation methods from the modern fashion design perspective by studying the shape,structure,color,shape,structure,color,pattern,craft and function of traditional clothing elements with the specific case study in Baiku Yao settlement in Lihu-Huaili village,Nandan county,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in China.Baiku Yao settlement is located in primitive natural environment with precipitous outdoor activity arena.Comparing with the daily outdoor activities and the environment characteristics,the author finds that the modern outdoor clothing has some inherent similarities with the traditional dress in Baiku Yao settlements.Both of those two types of clothing features protective,high degree of color identification,and more important,evolution and reforming over time.Compared with outdoor clothing that more focuses on professional technic and functional design,‘Casual outdoor' clothing need take into account both fashion and functionality.Therefore,it would be a significance study and innovation to apply the Baiku Yao clothing elements to "Casual outdoor" clothing,which could not only take advantage of the natural characteristics of traditional clothing but also modern design theories and technologies.Additionally,the high aesthetic and artistic value of Baiku Yao clothing could well correspond to the developing trend of new era.It is a pilot study to apply Baiku Yao clothing elements in the "Casual outdoor" costume design which spans across clothing categories.This innovation will be displayed in the author's Graduation Design Project.Based on the theoretical study and design project the author illustrates the possibility and diversity in inheritance and carry-forward of the Chinese traditional costume culture and how to make it fit into the modern aesthetic and fashion trends.Furthermore,this study would be significant for further study in terms of the application of Chinese traditional costume in modern design.
