Clothing,as a non-verbal symbol, reflects the development and inheritance of a society's economy, politics and culture. It expresses its meaning through a series of human social activities. It has the basic function of insulation, beautification and modification, and also has certain social attribute and deep symbolic meaning. As one of China's ethnic minority costumes,Manchu costume is an important part of the traditional costume of the Chinese nation, which shows the unique traditional culture of China.By integrating the semiotic theories of Saussure and Roland Barthes,a theoretical system for analyzing costume symbols is constructed, and the deep meaning of Qing Dynasty costumes is interpreted by taking Qing Dynasty costumes as corpus.Through the shape, material and color of the costumes, the denotative meaning of the costumes is displayed;the connotative meaning of the costume is shown by the social status, personality, gender and social occasions represented by costumes;and the cultural meaning of the costumes is shown by the integration of Manchu and Han culture. These meanings together constitute the signification system of Qing Dynasty costume, which makes the costume of Qing Dynasty present from a unique semiotic perspective.
