The Cambridge Companion To Modedrn Jewish Philosophy (Chapter 4) English-Chinese Translation Practice Report Of Jewish Philosophical Works

The thesis is about the studies of the translation of Jewish philosophical text,which is selected from the fourth chapter of The Cambridge Companion to Modern Jewish Philosophy,named as Jewish Philosophy after Kant: The Legacy of Salomon Maimon.This book has a great influence in the field of philosophy research.The content of this book involves the important components of Jewish Philosophy-western philosophy and Judaism.It mainly discusses the thoughts of Kant and Plato and their connection with Jewish philosophy.This translation test belongs to the philosophy information text and it contains many philosophical terms.Besides,there are great differences between English and Chinese in word order and usage.Nominalization and pronouns are widely used in the original English text,therefore,this paper puts forward the methods of words-adding,omission and conversion.According to the characteristics of long sentences,which are complex sentence structure and strong logicality,this paper starts from the analysis of the structure of long sentences,putting forward the methods of reconstruction according to sense-group,insertion and reverse translation due to its characteristics of many conjunctions,fixed collocations and dashes,as well as the differences in the structure of Chinese and English sentences.Finally,for obscure words and phrases,creative translation is adopted,in which the translator takes the initiative and interprets the sentence according to the context.Hoping this paper could provide some useful ideas and methods for translators who translate similar type of texts,and contribute to the study of Modern Jewish Philosophy in China.
