A Study On Language Use In Speaking Communities From The Perspective Of Urbanization

Based on Xi`an immigrant community as the breakthrough point,this paper studies the language situation of Xi’an immigrant communities in the process of urbanization,at the same time combined with the language use of Xi ’an to explore all kinds of social factors which may influence the development of the language environment of the immigrant community in Xi ’an.With the accelerated development of urbanization,many immigrants moved to Xi’an during the construction and development period of Xi’an,and due to the same work unit,these immigrants lived together and formed a community mainly composed of immigrants.The immigrant community has frequent internal communication and unique language use characteristics.However,influenced by the overall language environment of Xi’an city,unprecedented complexioned language usage emerged,making the immigrant community a perfect object to study language use,language attitude and language change in the process of urbanization.Therefore,this paper chooses the characteristic immigrant community of Xi’an as the starting point to investigate and study its language living conditions,and to observe the influence of Xi ’an language environment on the language use of immigrant community.In this paper,the language living conditions of the immigrant community and Xi’an city are investigated by means of questionnaire survey,supplemented by interview and non-interventional observation to obtain relevant information.By means of sociolinguistics and statistics,SPSS software was used to analyze the obtained data and study the current situation and influencing factors of language life in Xi’an immigrant community from the perspectives of frequency and frequency statistics,cross-table comparison,multiindependent sample test,chi-square test and correlation test.This paper consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the origin of the research,the current situation of the research,as well as the purpose and significance of the research.The second chapter is the research design part.This chapter gives an overview of the social background and language use in Xi’an,and also introduces the survey location,selection basis,research methods and steps,as well as the theoretical basis of this paper.The third chapter describes the language life of the immigrant community in detail from three aspects:language ability,language choice in different fields and attitude towards Xi ’an dialect.The fourth chapter is the analysis of the causes of immigrant community language living conditions and trend forecast,this paper isolated situation early childhood language acquisition,domicile of origin,age,level of education and other factors,using statistical methods to explore the relationship between language life in all kinds of factors and immigrant communities,and also through the language performance of different ages to predict the change trend of immigrant communities.the fifth chapter analyzes the relationship between the language environment of Xi‘an and the language use status of the immigrant community.Firstly,it briefly introduces the language environment of Xi’an,and then analyzes the relationship between the immigrant community and the language environment of Xi’an from three aspects:language ability,language choice and language attitude.Through a series of statistics and analysis,we believe that the language use in immigrant communities has the following characteristics:(1)Immigrant communities have unique language usage habits,which are manifested in the convergence of preference for dialect and language selection in special occasions.The preference dialect in the immigrant community is not the local strong dialect,but the strong dialect of the immigrant origin.The strong dialect of the immigrant community serves as a tool for the internal communication of the community,and the community members gradually turn to using mandarin and Xi’an dialect in the external communication.(2)Influenced by the language environment of Xi‘an city,the language habits of immigrant communities are turning to mandarin and Xi’an dialect,especially among the youth.Xi’an dialect is the dominant dialect of xi ’an.Due to changes in working environment and family structure,community members communicate more frequently with each other,and the number of speakers of mandarin and Xi’an dialect increases gradually.
