The reticence,especially in the English classroom,is the very common phenomenon which makes a lot of troubles in English teaching.Students are not active in class activities,they are unwilling to make cooperation with teachers,they surf on the internet or sleep in the classroom.It makes bad influence on both teachers and students.For teachers,this phenomenon influences the progress of classroom teaching,and is harmful to improve the quality of teaching.For students,they are likely to lose interest and develop negative attitude in English learning.From the aspect of pedagogy and psychology,It is believed that this phenomenon is caused by the inner personality,improper learning habit and teaching method.But there are no specific,and effective ways on how to make students participate in the class.The Professor Zhang Xuexin in Fudan University put forward the "split class" teaching model.The model combines the advantages of traditional classroom and discussion classroom,and divides classroom teaching into three parts:lecture,internalization absorption and discussion.The purpose of this study is to strengthen students' reading motivation and improve their reading ability.To rise the inner motivation of students,the problems of reticence will also be solved.In order to analysis the reason of the class reticence,the author collects relevant theories and literature in reticence classroom and split class.Firstly,the author does a questionnaire survey,makes an interview and have talk among students.Secondly,puts forward the split class to overcome the reticence phenomenon in English classroom.The 100students are involved in the interview and questionnaire.The survey shows that there are 3 reasons lead to the English classroom reticence:the student factors,the teacher factors and education level of parents factor.For student factors,it refers to the weakness in English learning,negative attitude and inner personality.For teacher aspect,it refers to the sole teaching method and evaluation.Compare with traditional teaching class,the author put the split class into practice to prove its effectiveness and feasibility in overcoming the reticence in English classroom.The author adopts classroom observation,questionnaire survey,interview and experiment to the study.Before the experiment,the students from 2 classes in Shaanxi Police Vocational College take an examination on their reading ability.And then,control class takes the traditional teaching method,the experimental class takes the split class teaching method.At the end of the experiment,compare the results of the two classes.Through the statistics and analysis of the experimental data,the author obtains the research results.To begin with,compare with traditional class,split class is more useful to improve reading interest than the traditional class mode.What is more,split class play an positive role in reticence English class.The last but not the least,split class offers feasible measure for frontline teachers.
