This thesis takes conflict talk in the mediation show "Talk of Harmony",in total48 episodes of Heilongjiang Public Channel from Aug.to Sept.2020,as the target corpus.Via the method of constructing small-sized corpus, this thesis aims to analyze the categories, expressive formulae, pragmatic constraints, pragmatic functions and pragmatic effects of conflict talk in terms of Jonathan Culpeper's Impoliteness Theory. The purpose of this paper is to ease the interpersonal relationship and to build a harmonious and equal communication mode.Based on Culpeper's Impoliteness Theory, this thesis divides conflict talk into conventionalized conflict talk and non-conventionalized conflict talk.According to this study, conflict talk is restricted by power and status, social distance, social situation and the engagement of the third party.Conflict talk has the positive functions which include consolidating or improving power and status, adjusting social distance and maintaining face. While the negative ones include degrading power and status, venting negative emotions, and threatening face. Also, the impact of conflict talk to interpersonal relationship is both positive and negative,as it can reconstruct communicative order or deconstruct interpersonal relationship. This study proves the wide applicability of the Impolite Theory as well as a new pragmatic direction for the study of conflict talk. Also, this thesis develops a new perspective for the construction of harmonious and equal interpersonal relationship.
