In social interaction situations, cooperation involves a group of individuals working together in a coordinated manner to achieve common or mutually beneficial goals. However, the process of coordinating the formation of cooperative groups often involves the influence of group-level characteristics. How do people deal with complex and diverse group characteristic information as the basis for cooperation? Based on this purpose, this study, through the way of emotional expression, refers to the idea of ensemble coding research, and takes group emotional expression as a group characteristic to explore its influence on cooperation.Specifically, this study focuses on the influence of the average emotion and difference of group emotional expression on individual cooperative decision-making in group social dilemmas. In this study, the effects of mean and standard deviation of group emotional expression on individual cooperative decision-making was investigated by behavior experiment and three parts experiment. The cooperative behavior of individuals in groups is discussed at the visual level, which provides a new idea for the study of ensemble coding in the field of social dilemmas. To explore the judgment of 31 participants on the average emotion of multiple faces, the pre-experiment was designed as 2(number of faces :9,12)×2(standard deviation of group emotional difference: 5,10)within-subjects design. The results showed that the estimating of average emotion of low standard deviation face group was more accurate than that of high standard deviation face group, and the effect was only significant in the case of 9 faces.Experiment 1 consists of two sub-experiments.Experiment 1-A in negative context,through33 participants, the effects of the standard deviation of group emotional expression(5/10)and the similarity of individual-group emotional expression(1-9 score)on the willingness to cooperate were investigated. As a result, the higher the similarity, the more willing the individual to cooperate, but the less significant the effect of standard deviation on the willingness to cooperate. To explore the effects of standard deviation(5/10)and similarity(1-9)of individual-group emotional expression on cooperative willingness in positive context,Experiment 1-B was conducted through 32 participants, and the results were the same as Experiment 1-A.Experiment 2 includes two sub-experiments.Experiment 2-A in a negative context,two-factor within-subjects were designed using 2(whether the mean of group emotional expression was the same as the participants: the same,different)×2(standard deviation of group emotional expression :5,10)to explore the effects of mean and standard deviation on the cooperative behavior of 37 participants. The results showed that the level of cooperation between individuals and groups with the same mean is higher than that of groups with different mean.Compared with the group with large standard deviation, the level of cooperation between individuals and the group with small standard deviation is higher. The results also showed that the mean and standard deviation influence the cooperation through social identity as intermediary variables;Experiment 2-B in a positive context,two-factor within-subject design of 2(mean: same,different)×2(standard deviation :5,10)was used to explore the effects of mean and standard deviation on the cooperative behavior of 37 participants. And the results were the same as Experiment 2-A.Through the above experiments, this study found that:(1)The accuracy of the average emotional judgment of multiple faces with small differences is higher.(2)The more similar the emotional expression of a group is to that of an individual, the more willing the individual is to cooperate with them.(3)Individuals identify with groups that express thire own emotions and have a higher level of cooperation with them.(4)Individuals identify with groups that express more consistent emotions and have a higher level of cooperation with them.
