Analysis Of The Works And Singing Characteristics Of Tosti's Art Songs

Paulo Tosti was a well-known and popular composer at the time.His songs feature prominently in the Italian art songs history.Western music critics admired that “ Franz Schubert is the most representative composer in art songs history of German and Austria while Paolo Tosti stands the same position in Italian art song history.” His famous works are “ Serenata ” and “ Sogno ”.The riter was impressed by the sweet,natural and expressive melodies when the riter first started learning art songs.This article summarizes the performance characteristics using two Tosti ' s songs mentioned above based on analysis of music style,structure and compositional intent.In Addition,discussions on cadence of its speech,breathing techniques,language and emotions are further conducted to support the analysis.Finally,by combining my personal performance thoughts and experience with above analysis,a performing comprehension of Tosti ' s songs is concluded in this article.The Study helps singers further understand the context of songs and improves their analyzing ability and performing skills.
