The source text is selected from Chapter Four(Public Voices: Skincare Advertising and Discourses of “Beauty”)of a sociolinguistics book Discourses of Aging and Gender: The Impact of Public and Private Voices on the Identity of Aging Women.Based on critical discourse analysis(CDA)and multimodal analysis, the source text explores how public discourse and private discourse describe aging women and their influence. There are a lot of static expressions in the source text, such as using nouns to express the action meaning and weakening the action meaning of verbs. In addition, the subject of the source text is mostly an object.According to the above features of the text, the cases are written from three aspects: nominalization, parenthesis, and subject translation.First, nominalization is divided into four categories from the lexical and sentence levels, and translated into adjectives,verbs,verb-object structures and independent clauses according to different categories.Second,in translation, the author finds that English mostly uses static expressions, which nouns, adjectives, phrases and clauses are used to express the meaning of actions, causing the delexical use of verbs. Therefore, this paper discusses the translation of three types of verbs:notional verbs,semi-linking verbs and link-verbs.Last,the differences between English and Chinese lead to differences in the use of the subject. Therefore, strategies such as retaining the subject, adding general words, converting into the agent subject and omitting the subject are adopted in the translation of the subject. The author hopes that this translation can be of reference value in the translation of sociolinguistics text, and its content can provide helps for relevant personnel in the same field.
