Under the background of the continuous construction and development of engineering,the professional technical level and ability of engineering learners in China have reached the forefront of the world.However,due to the cultural differences and inherent concepts between Chinese and English,the existing research results in China are not in a fine interchange with western countries.Therefore,it is imperative to improve the English ability of engineering learners,and the ability to choose the correct words and their collocations is one of the key factors restricting the English output ability.Therefore,based on the corpus-driven phraseology and collocation theory proposed by Sinclair,Firth and Halliday,and with the help of corpus-driven quantitative research method,this paper summarizes and analyzes the linguistic features of 1308 academic texts of four representative and typical engineering majors(Chemical Engineering,Civil Engineering,Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering).At the lexical level,it is found that native English scholars majoring in engineering show a strong noun preference,and they also have professional,scientific,objective and emotionless lexical characteristics for verbs,adjectives and adverbs that are rarely used.At the lexical chunk level,the usage preference of “noun phrase + of + phrase” structure and “prepositional phrase + of + phrase” structure is shown.From the perspective of the functional features of lexical chunks,text lexical chunks have the highest frequency,followed by research lexical chunks,and position lexical chunks have the lowest frequency.Moreover “It external” structure in position lexical chunks is commonly used by native English scholars of engineering majors in this study.The purpose of this study is to provide some references for teachers and learners of engineering majors,so as to improve the English output ability of Chinese engineering learners,so that their cutting-edge research results can be timely understood by foreign scholars.
