Enshi Xinhai Revolution Research

More than a hundred years ago,a gunshot of the Xinhai Revolution opened a new era in Chinese history,which profoundly affected the appearance and destiny of the entire Chinese nation.Enshi region,which is located in the deep southwest of Hubei province,experienced the baptism of the Xinhai revolution as well as other minority areas in the neighboring eastern Chongqing and western Hunan,and began to take a new road of democracy and republic in the difficult and tortuous revolutionary struggle.During this period,a large number of democratic revolutionaries and enlightened gentry from Enshi actively participated in the propaganda and organization activities of the revolution,and became the vanguard and backbone of the revolution,making great contributions to the success of the revolution.At the same time,the pioneering actions of the Xinhai Revolution also had a profound impact on the long-term development of Enshi and the production and living of the people here.The development of Xinhai Revolution in Enshi has its profound natural conditions,historical origin and social basis.In terms of natural conditions,Enshi is located in the Wuling Mountain area in the southwest of Hubei Province,which is the junction zone of many provinces.Enshi is known as the "throat of Sichuan and Hubei,and the barrier of Jingchu".In addition,it is criss-crossing with mountains and rivers,and the terrain is very important,so it has natural geographical advantages.As far as the historical origin is concerned,Enshi has always been the place where tujia people breed and live,the unique geographical and natural conditions have brought up the unique national character of tujia people,and the tujia ancestors are brave and good at fighting,and have the glorious revolutionary heroism spirit,which has laid a good mass foundation for the organization and launch of the revolution.Since Qin and Han dynasties,the rulers in the long-term carried out national isolation policies and different political system from the central plains,regional development had not been taken seriously.So the progress of economy,politics and culture in Enshi had been slow,which had been on backward level.People were living in such extreme hardship that they could no longer go on living as usual.At the end of the Qing Dynasty,with the increasing corruption and decline of the imperial court and the introduction of bourgeois revolutionary ideas,the national consciousness of the people was gradually awakened,and spontaneous mass resistance struggles arose one after another.With the rapid upsurge of the revolutionary situation,Enshi people with the glorious revolutionary tradition took an active part in the revolutionary tide,including some representative figures,such as Wen Chaozhong,Lu Dasen,Xiang Bingkun,Zhu Hezhong,Deng Yulin,etc.,who made great contributions to the victory of the Xinhai Revolution and the successful recovery of Enshi.The victory of Xinhai revolution created favorable conditions for the modernization of Enshi and promoted the progress of the social economy,culture and education in Enshi.However,the achievements of Enshi revolution failed to be consolidated,and soon the reactionary forces usurped it.The political situation was again turbulent,and the modernization of Enshi region suffered setbacks.
