A Sociolinguistic Study Of Place Names In Dazhou

As a proper name of a natural or human geographic area at a specific spatial location,a place name has a very rich linguistic and cultural connotation.Dazhou is located in the northeastern part of Sichuan Province,and the research of its place names has largely lagged behind.Active sociolinguistic research on Dazhou's place names is of great theoretical and practical significance in deepening people's understanding of Dazhou's place names and social culture.There are 2,461 administrative district names,village names and community names in Dazhou.This article takes these place names as the research object.The author goes to the local place names office,local chronicles office,archives,and libraries to consult gazetteers,yearbooks,historical materials and other documents related to local place names,and conduct field visits to investigate and collect the connotation of place names.By using the relevant theories and methods of sociolinguistics,the hierarchical distribution,basic types,basic structures,and basic characteristics of Dazhou place names,as well as the relationship between Dazhou place names and social and cultural psychology,have been systematically analyzed and discussed.This paper consists of four main parts.The introduction mainly introduces the general situation of Dazhou,the research status and significance of Dazhou place names.The first chapter is a survey of the current status of place names in Dazhou.The survey covers place names above the village and community level in Dazhou,and the total number of place names covered is 2,461.The basic results of the survey are explained by comprehensively using the method of literature research,field investigation and the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods,including the distribution of Dazhou's place names at four levels: prefecture-level administrative districts,county-level administrative districts,township-level administrative districts,communities-villages districts.In Dazhou place names,there are 10 basic types,such as naming by place,naming by water,naming by things,naming by people,and naming by history.The second chapter is an analysis of the basic structure and fundamental characteristics of Dazhou place names.First,this chapter discusses the basic structure of Dazhou place names from the aspects of syllable composition and word structure.Secondly,this chapter summarizes the basic characteristics of place names in Dazhou,including that the length of place names is mainly three syllables and four syllables,and the word structure is mostly in the form of "compound specific place name + generic place name";place names highlight the local landform features of mountains and water,and place names Connotation of strong family concept.The third chapter is an analysis of the social cultural and psychology of Dazhou place names.First,this chapter discusses the close relationship between Dazhou place names and social culture from five aspects: geographical features,economic life,changing times,historical facts and legends,and folk beliefs.Secondly,this chapter discusses the relationship between Dazhou place names and social psychology from three aspects: the psychology of convenience to remember,the psychology of seeking good luck and avoiding evil,and the psychology of seeking elegance and avoiding secularism.
