Since Merkel came to power in 2005,bilateral economic and trade relations between China and Germany have been further developed.Bilateral trade between China and Germany in 2020 is 3.17 times higher than in 2005,and China has been Germany's largest trading partner for five consecutive years. In 2021,Merkel will step down as chancellor, ending her 16-year premiership. What is the post-Merkel era of bilateral economic and trade relations between China and Germany? What is the significance of the development of bilateral economic and trade relations between China and Germany for economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries? It is of great significance to study the bilateral economic and trade relations between China and Germany in merkel's period to analyze this series of problems.Throughout Merkel's tenure, economic and trade relations between the two countries have not been easy, although trade between the two countries has doubled. This paper finds through a comb of official German reports and comments by German officials that, unlike China, which has always regarded Germany as a partner,Germany's official perception of China in the economic and trade fields has gone through three stages.Judging from the trade volume between the two countries, the growth rate of bilateral trade volume between China and Germany is also up and down.In terms of bilateral investment,China's investment in Germany has also experienced a process of decline after high growth.China-Germany economy and trade itself also have outstanding characteristics. The study found that the high proportion of science and technology industry, large growth rate, diversified ways of cooperation, etc.are the background color of economic and trade exchanges between the two countries. There are also thorns in the way forward, and there are problems in the economic and trade ties between the two countries, such as investment and trade, and the implementation of investment review by Germany and accusations of market access for China, which to some extent cast a shadow over the development of bilateral economic and trade relations between China and Germany. In view of the factors affecting bilateral economic and trade relations between China and Germany, this paper uses quantitative analysis to verify the correlation between the complementarity of Sino-German trade, the political relationship between China and Germany and the growth rate of Sino-German trade. In addition,Germany,as one of the EU's “boosters” and leading countries, also discusses the EU's impact on bilateral economic and trade relations between China and Germany.2020 has been an extraordinary year. The outbreak of new crown pneumonia will inevitably affect bilateral economic and trade relations between China and Germany, and may cause fluctuations in bilateral trade between China and Germany in the short term. But look to the future because of the stability of bilateral political relations between the two countries,Germany's growing dependence on China and China's continuous improvement of the business environment. The development of bilateral economic and trade relations between China and Germany in the post-Merkel period still has a bright future.
