STEM is the acronym for science,technology,engineering and mathematics.Motivated by the international competition and economic development,STEM education has been advocated by US to emphasize the integration of multi-disciplines in the national education.STEM education aims to encourage students to major in science and technology engineering,and cultivate students’ science and technology literacy.This paper first discussed the concepts of STEM education and STEM teaching strategies according to literature review.Combing STEM education with core literacies,the thesis then emphasized the importance and necessity of STEM teaching for the cultivation of students’ scientific elements.After conducting the interviews of many senior teachers of chemistry and questionnaire survey on students in senior schools in Yanji city.The questionnaire is divided into two parts.Six questions are designed in the interest of chemistry learning,including the value of chemistry discipline,course content,classroom teaching,learning method,experimental interest,and evaluation method,the second part designs six questions in the aspects of experimental exploration,interdisciplinary teaching,and introduction of engineering questions,focusing on the introduction of STEM elements into classroom teaching And the acceptability of the students.The results of students’questionnaire show that students believe that chemistry is vital to develop sciences and technologies but they lack deep understanding of the specific development and application of chemistry.Students know that only chemistry knowledge cannot understand the actual industries and lives,but they receive little reasonable introduction of knowledge into other disciplines in the chemistry classroom,and the overall scientific literacy of students needs to be improved.In middle school,students seldom have the opportunity to contact or understand the specific engineering practice,and the development of students’ innovation abilities is thus limited.There are not enough practical sources of teachers’ classroom examples,and the understanding of the subject connotation is not deep enough.The classroom teaching based on the case problem needs to be improved and improved.Through further interviews with chemistry teachers in the middle school,it shows that teachers do not understand the general concepts of STEM well,and STEM teaching is not right carried out in classroom accompanied by the relatively weak interests of students’chemical learning.Based on the current situations,a teaching lecture on "redox reaction"based on STEM element was designed according to the current curriculum standard.The teaching schedule was then practiced to verify its teaching effect.According to the pre-and post-test data of " STEM-based classroom evaluation table",the middle school chemistry teaching design based on STEM element can improve students’ learning interests and subject abilities.
