Field cognitive style is the basis for judging students' cognitive style. It refers to the relatively stable attitude and behavior pattern displayed by individuals in information processing. It has no correlation with intelligence and can be divided into field independent and field dependent.Field independent students are not easily affected by the environment in information processing, good at independent learning, can keenly capture the key to the problem, like challenges, willing to try new tasks, often in the active state of learning, good at natural science, mathematics and other science subjects;Field-dependent students are easily affected by the environment, lack flexibility and independence when solving problems, like cooperative learning, expect to get teachers' guidance and encouragement, tend to be passive in learning, and prefer social sciences and humanities. The types of field cognitive style can affect students' abilities of information processing, memory, thinking and problem solving, which is of great significance for geography teachers to select and design effective teaching models according to the characteristics of students' field cognitive style.Geography teaching mode is a systematic combination of relatively stable teaching procedures and teaching methods formed by teachers in geography teaching activities according to certain teaching concepts and at the same time following the rules of geography teaching. It is usually composed of teaching theories or ideas, teaching objectives and teaching process. At present, the widely used geography teaching modes in junior middle schools include self-study guidance, problem discussion and guided discovery. In Xinzhou district of Wuhan city the first junior middle school second day student as the research object, using literature study, questionnaire investigation and education experiment, studied the different cognitive styles of junior middle school students in three kinds of geography teaching mode of learning, choose four initial geographical grades were class experiment, three classes for experimental classes,Respectively using self-study tutorship,discussion-based,guided discovery teaching model, the fourth class for that in comparative classes, the traditional teaching style of the eighth grade next semester teaching geography content, academic proficiency test is used when the final exam Wuhan as volume after the test, and the results of four classes of geography and their performance in the classroom of statistics and analysis. The results show that junior middle school students with different field cognitive styles have significant differences in geography learning motivation, good question types and suitable teaching mode.(1)For the field-independent junior high school students, problem discussion mode and guided discovery mode are suitable for them to improve their geographical performance. They have a better grasp of the knowledge of nature and comprehensive analysis in these two modes. These two modes are conducive to the field-independent students to play their own good at analyzing problems and grasp the overall advantage.(2)for the dependent type of junior middle school students,self-study tutorship, mode and problem's discussion will help improve their geographic grades, they are not good at the nature of the topic in this class is better than two modes guided discovery and that in comparative classes, and comprehensive analysis ability and guided discovery class has a great advantage in comparison to that in comparative classes, their liking of the two models is also high,However, learning motivation is only at a higher level in the problem discussion mode.(3)Generally speaking, the problem discussion mode is suitable for both field-dependent and field-independent junior middle school students, especially for the improvement of the comprehensive analysis ability of field-dependent students. Therefore,in the geography teaching of junior middle school, the class with more field independent students can use the teaching mode of problem discussion mode and guiding discovery mode.At the same time, more attention and praise should be given to the field dependent students in the teaching.Classes with more field-dependent students can use self-study tutoring mode and problem discussion mode. This paper provides important reference for middle school geography teachers to choose and design appropriate teaching mode according to students' cognitive styles.
