My country’s new round of curriculum reform advocates students to construct knowledge independently. The chemistry curriculum standard for general high school(2020 revision)proposes that chemistry discipline should be close to society and real life, and assign specific problem-solving tasks, which is similar to the problem-based learning teaching model(Problem-Based Learning, referred to as PBL)features similar results. The problem-based learning and teaching model is a kind of teaching mode that puts students in a real situation, collects data and consults literature before class, and asks a series of related questions in a spiral with the help of teachers, and solves and organizes cooperatively in groups in the classroom. This teaching mode can cultivate students’ cooperative communication ability, autonomous learning ability and problem-solving ability.Elemental compounds are the foundation of high school chemistry and play a role in linking the past and the future. However, due to the complicated knowledge points involved, students have difficulties in learning. In this paper, the problem-based learning teaching mode is applied to the teaching of chemical inorganic element compounds in high school, and the application effect of this teaching mode is discussed, and the core literacy of students in chemistry is developed in the process of cultivating various abilities. This paper sorts out the research status of elemental compounds and problem-based learning teaching mode through literature method, clarifies the research purpose, meaning, content and method of this paper, and defines the concept of problem-based learning teaching mode. The teaching and learning situation of teachers and students were investigated;the teaching process of the problem-based learning teaching mode was designed according to the characteristics of the problem-based learning teaching mode and the characteristics of the elemental compound class time;"Exploration of Water Composition" for teaching practice.Through the analysis of students’ test scores,after-class self-evaluation scales and questionnaires, the effectiveness of the problem-based learning teaching model in practical teaching is proved. The results show that the application of the problem-based learning teaching model to elemental compounds has a significant effect, the students’ academic performance has been improved, they have the awareness of actively solving problems and cooperative progress, and the students’ language expression ability and generalization ability have also improved. Some students have also developed the study habit of previewing before class, reviewing after class and evaluating their own learning situation. The problem-based learning and teaching model embodies the people-oriented,student-centered educational philosophy, meets the requirements of the curriculum standards, and cultivates students’ core literacy of chemistry.
