A Study On The Construction Of National Identity In The Editorial Of The Chongqing Edition Of Ta Kung Pao During The Anti-Japanese War

Ta Kung Pao is one of the most influential and talented newspapers in the history of modern Chinese Journalism,among which the Chongqing edition of Ta Kung Pao existed in its peak stage of development,the period of the Anti-Japanese War.Editorial Review is an important column of Chongqing Ta Kung Pao.By means of literature analysis and text analysis,this paper makes a systematic analysis of 1941 editorial reviews published by the Chongqing edition of Ta Kung Pao during the Anti-Japanese War.It is found that the attention of the editorial in this period is not very different at home and abroad,but it has the characteristics of periodic emphasis,especially in the domestic war,politics,diplomacy,economy,social livelihood and cultural education,and the domestic and state affairs of Japan and the United States,there are obvious concerns about fluctuations,which are closely related to the war and national conditions at that time.Through the analysis.this paper finds that the editorial of the Chongqing edition of Ta Kung Pao during the Anti-Japanese War constructed a framework of national identity for readers,which mainly consists of three dimensions:exclusive identity,mutual identity and overall identity.In the dimension of exclusive identity,Ta Kung Pao differentiates and excludes the foreign groups of the Chinese nation,Japanese aggressors and traitors,while accepting and identifying the internal group of the Chinese nation by presenting the common historical memory and cultural acceptance of the Chinese nation.In the dimension of mutual recognition,in order to construct national identity,Ta Kung Pao disseminated information released from each other among the three pairs of groups in China at that time,namely,the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China,Chinese compatriots at home and abroad,and colleagues in the domestic press.In the dimension of overall identity,Ta Kung Pao mainly constructs national identity by strengthening the concept of national territory,praising the army of the state under the United front,establishing five kinds of positive images of the state of China and highlighting two key words of "the Chinese nation" and "the nation".Nationality is an imaginary community.The Chongqing version of Ta Kung Pao also depicted a magnificent picture of the nation to the readers.The picture included the common historical memory of the Chinese nation,the image of the Chinese people,the national political parties,overseas Chinese,journalists,territory,concession sovereignty,the image of the national army and the national image as the content of the national identity image.In the process of building national identity,due to the turbulence of national emotion and the dual nature of Ta Kung Pao scholar’s comment on politics and market orientation,Ta Kung Pao also has its historical limitations,it plays the role of a "tumbler" in the discourse about the Kuomintang and the Communist Party,and pays more attention to the Kuomintang side.This is inseparable from the soil of the age when Ta Kung Pao grew up.
