Wenchuan Earthquake Memory On Media Commemoration

The Wenchuan Earthquake on May 12,2008 is a huge disaster for the people of the whole country.It has brought irreparable damage to people's body and spirit.Only by remembering disaster can we move forward.As a historian and a disseminator of information,the media plays an indispensable role in reproducing history,inheriting culture and reshaping public memory.In the ten years after the earthquake,the media's coverage of the Wenchuan earthquake has never been interrupted,especially on the anniversary day.The media tells the story of Wenchuan in the form of special issues and special reports,calling for,remolding and consolidating the public's memory of Wenchuan.This paper chooses three newspapers of People's Daily,West China Metropolitan Daily and Southern Metropolitan Daily as research objects,and collects all the commemorative reports about Wenchuan in the past 10 years during May 12.From the perspective of collective memory and media memory,this paper analyzes the core issues of how the media constructs memories and what effects they have produced,trying to explore the media's memory construction of the Wenchuan earthquake in the past ten years.Firstly,the paper sorts out the samples.Through the analysis of the media layout,topic setting and semantic construction,the paper grasps the rules and characteristics of media commemorative reports from a macro perspective.The media presents the earthquake memory and related historical records of the victims as much as possible to the audience,ensure the continuity of the collective memory of the earthquake,and reconstruct the audience's memory identification and memory identity.On this basis,the media's memory construction strategy is summarized,that is,“focusing on the 'people' in the earthquake,building the memory in the details”,“ceremonial reports,repeating the memory”,“national narrative,solidified by identity” memory".News report,as a kind of news ritual,continuouslydelivers information to the audience within the scope of the media framework,which is itself a way of memory transmission.The final effect of the media's memory shaping of wenchuan earthquake is also what this paper wants to discuss.By highlighting and masking these two ways,the media presents the information they want to convey to the audience,avoiding inappropriate content.By presenting the history and the commemorative activities,the commemorative report realizes the reappearance of history and the construction of "historical memory",and then achieves the audience's recognition of the "emotional and value dimensions" of the nation,promotes the achievement of social consensus,and exerts the social cohesion and integration function of the mass media.
