An Analysis Of The Typical Character Reports In Xinjiang Daily After The Founding Of The People’s Republic Of China

Typical report is a kind of strengthened report on the outstanding things of universal significance—the report of choosing the most prominent and representative cases and characters from a large number of important facts and characters.This is an important way of reporting in China’s journalism.Typical reports highlight the characteristics of the times and represent the spirit of the times.On February 19,2016,Xi Jinping presided over the party’s Symposium on news and public opinion.At the meeting,Xi Jinping summed up the responsibilities and missions of the party’s news and public opinion work in 48 words,including "leading orientation","uniting the people","encouraging morale,becoming a man of wind" and so on.The typical character report of each era is the epitome of an era,which conveys the mainstream values to the audience and plays a leading and educational role.Xinjiang Daily is the Party Committee organ newspaper of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.It is the only provincial Party newspaper published in four languages in China.It follows the 16 character newspaper running policy of "one party newspaper,four versions,unified leadership,each with its own characteristics".Among them,"unified leadership" is reflected in thinking,politics and organization,reflecting the unified leadership of the party to the four characters of newspapers.Xinjiang Daily always insists on promoting and leading the advanced culture in its report,and also plays an important role in inheriting,innovating and developing Xinjiang culture.Xinjiang Daily,the most influential party newspaper in Xinjiang,is naturally the first sample.Taking Xinjiang Daily as a typical report research object,it can reflect the policy tendency of the CPC Central Committee to a certain extent,and also reflect the value orientation of Xinjiang news report in a certain historical period.From January 1950 to October 2019,the author selected 838 typical character reports of Xinjiang daily by sampling method.Based on Van Dijk’s discourse theory,this paper analyzes the discourse theme and style of Xinjiang Daily in different periods.The typical character report of Xinjiang daily can be divided into four stages:first,seventeen years of the founding of the People’s Republic of China;second,tenyears of the cultural revolution;third,twenty years since the reform and opening up to the twenty third year of the new century;fourth,twenty years since the new century.The samples of each stage firstly analyze the gender,occupation,behavior and spiritual composition of typical characters from the perspective of statistics;then analyze the discourse theme and style of different stages through the statistics of hot words.At last,it makes a summary of the typical reports in each stage.In the new era,the typical character reports of Xinjiang Daily are faced with great challenges,such as the model of reports,the reports do not fully present all aspects of Xinjiang people,the lack of interaction with the audience,etc.Facing these problems,the author believes that Xinjiang Daily should: build a good media platform,create real and sensible characters,expand the typical reporting fields,etc.In addition,Xinjiang Daily’s reports on typical characters also have important social functions:promoting national unity,gathering social forces and displaying Xinjiang’s local customs.
