Study On Family Engagement Mode Of Children’s Reading In Public Libraries

In the Regulations on the Promotion of National Reading issued in 2017,our country clearly states that infant families,schools and libraries should actively carry out parent-child reading activities to cultivate children’s interest in reading;the Law on Public Libraries,which was implemented on 1 January 2018,requires public libraries to carry out children’s reading;the Code on Services for Children and Adolescents in Public Libraries also regulates the resources,services and infrastructure for children’s reading in public libraries;and the National Curriculum for Family Guidance notes the important impact of healthy family engagement on children’s development.Children have a strong desire to explore,language development is rapid,easy to form learning ability,consolidate the reading foundation,but their social cognitive ability is not comprehensive.Therefore,they often ignore these cognitive abilities when reading alone.Parents’ companionship plays a role in communication and guidance.Based on the literature survey,this paper investigates and summarizes the family engagement service of children’s reading in public libraries at home and abroad,investigates the current situation of family engagement in children’s reading,the influence of family factors on children’s reading and the family’s demand for public library services,and analyzes the family engagement service cases of children’s reading in the future of Oklahoma starting with the Children’s(OK Futures)Project,the Waukegan Public Library in Illinois and the Children’s Library in Shenzhen,on the basis of family needs and case analysis,this paper constructs the family engagement service mode of children’s reading in public libraries in China and puts forward services countermeasures in order to enlighten the practice in the future.As the main organization of national public cultural service,public library has unshirkable responsibility and obligation to improve the reading literacy of the whole people.It can provide strong support and scientific guidance for children’s reading family engagement practice.
