Radar has made immense achievements in the military field. With the development of electronic technology, the millimeter-wave radar in terms of frequency modulated continuous wave applied in some civilian field gradually, which has advantages on the small size and high level of integration.Due to the all-weather features, the millimeter-wave radar has an irreplaceable role in automatic driving technique and automotive anti-collision alarm.Besides,in the fields of security and protection, the millimeter-wave radar also has a tremendous application prospect. As a kind of sensor for probing,millimeter-wave radar in terms of frequency modulated continuous wave is used for detecting the distance, velocity, and azimuth of the targets. The main technological challenge of this kind of radar is the complicated system which includes the antenna,RF circuit, and digital signal process.Based on this reason, this thesis makes a research on the design and implementation of the frequency modulated continuous wave radar, which describes the steps of the design and implementation detailly. At least, this thesis makes an exploration of the promotion of the main system parameters. The structure of this thesis as follows.First of all, this thesis makes a conclusion of the development history of the radar and the review of research at home and abroad. This thesis makes a deduction on the mathematic model of the frequency modulated continuous wave radars IF signal.Based on this mathematical model, the mathematical formulas of the distance-measure,velocity-measure,and azimuth-measure are deduced.Afterward,a method of antenna design is proposed. This thesis describes a detailed process of the antenna which is applied for the frequency modulated continuous wave radar. The form of this antenna is a resonant slot antenna based on the ridge gap waveguide. The Half wavelength antenna spacing criterion, design of the ridge gap waveguide transmission line, size and location of these slots, and optimization of antenna pattern based on Taylor distribution are described in this thesis.Next, the software of the radar system is described in this thesis.Based on the radar parameters, the radar chips have been confirmed. Then,a detailed design flow about the digital signal process has been proposed:1.Combine with the output data’s form of the radar chip, the software flow pattern has been drawn. The part of the radar software system not only includes the necessary digital signal process but also involves the input and output interface procedures;2.The radar system needs to process abundant data;it also should keep high speed and efficiency at the same time,so it needs memory programming, the scheduling mode of these algorithms and data migration, and all of them are given in this thesis;3.A detailed description of the main algorithms;4.The measurement result of the frequency modulated continuous wave radar.Lastly, the exploration about how to promote the performance of the radar in terms of distance and azimuth. For distance,Zoom-FFT is introduced to realize the spectrum segmentation by resampling. Therefore, the range resolution ability has promoted; For azimuth, this thesis applies the Capon algorithm to estimate the direction of arrival of the targets. The Capon algorithm has finished the simulation and implementation works.
