E-sports is a newborn but representative media arena in the current Internet industry.Relying on social media,it has incubated brand-new social relationships,as well as increasingly fierce discourse conflicts, the most important of which are gender issues. This research will focus on the old problems in this new field, exploring whether the formation of new media arena could promote female status and discourse power in the real society.Taking the female fans of League of Legends Pro League as a sample, selecting the incident of professional player insulting female fans in 2020 as a case, depending on the analytical framework of Michel De Certeau's Theory of Daily Life Practice, using a combination of semi-structured interviews, participatory observations, and text analysis, this research aims to explore out of female fans' motivation to enter the E-sports arena, practice of self-empowerment,and the impacts on the male-dominated power structure. In conclusion, female fans entered the E-sports arena motivated by interest and all levels of self-realization needs. However, after initial intervention and obsrvation, they have gradually perceived the “female E-sports fans” debuff in the circle.Being “weakened” unexpectedly has seriously affected their experience and practice in the arena. Therefore, through a series of “tactics for the weak”,including usage, consumption, rhetoric, etc.,they resist the established system of E-sports dominated by male fans, and seek an equal status and right to speak for themselves. This process is in line with the “Practice of Daily Life” defined by Michel De Certeau. In discourse conflicts, female fans usually passively resist within the framework of the E-sports arena, rather than actively organize systematic protest movements. In addition, due to the lack of discourse position, female fans' practices often occur in the existing discourse space of the E-sports arena, seeking survival in the territory of “the others”.Finally, female fans often choose to “use” the traditional values and discourses of the E-sports arena, supplemented by “rhetoric”and “strategies” to implicitly express their own aspirations. However, this kind of "resistance of the weak" is very easy to be “suppressed” in actual resistance by male fans who master the rules of discourse, thus strengthening the cycle of old power order.Based on the emerging media arena of E-sports,this research discusses the practice of women's recognition of self-identity and self-empowerment from the perspective of Daily Life Practice Theory.Through summarizing women's motives and tactics, and analyzing their discourse dilemma and the breaking-through in the new media arena, this research hopes to provide a branch line of Feminism research in the Internet area.At the same time, this research would dialogue with the Practice of Daily Life in context of the Internet media where the masses are given more initiative, and look back at whether De Certeau's definition and judgment of the "weak" is still accurate.
