The increasing consumption of household electrical energy brings great harm to the ecological environment,causing energy crisis,environmental pollution and other serious problems.In order to achieve the goal of “Peak Carbon Dioxide Emissions” and “Carbon Neutrality” in the 14 th Five-Year Plan,it is necessary to guide households to use electricity in a high-quality way and curb their high carbon emissions.In recent years,gamification,as a new development trend of video games,has played an important role in changing people’s behavior.Based on this,combining the concept of energy conservation and gamifications,the author tries to design and develop a households-oriented energy saving gamification which aims at affecting and interfering the energy consumption behavior of people.This game will make users focus more on their behaviors consuming energy so as to foster their energysaving awareness,reduce energy consumption and enhance responsibility for environment protection.The thesis conducts a comprehensive analysis and research on the theory of environmental protection behavior and the design of gamification out of the concept of household energy-saving behaviors.By studying the formation mechanism of environmental protection behavior,the gamification design model and the functionality of game elements,a research hypothesis is proposed based on self-determination theory,aiming at clarifying what sort of features of game elements can promote participation of users and features that trigger the intrinsic motivation of participation.Those features will be utilized on the design of gamification to raise awareness of saving energy.Based on the research hypothesis,the author designed a survey questionnaire to verify the influence of game elements on the intrinsic motivation of game participation.After analyzing feedbacks of the survey questionnaire mentioned above,a conclusion is made accordingly.Then the author combined the conclusion with the energy-saving behavior and gamifications based on which the design strategy of gamifications for household-oriented energy conservation behavior is proposed.Finally,an energy-saving game is designed and developed in order to verify the application of gamification strategy for household-oriented energy conservation behavior.The prospect of this essay is to provide a new idea for the gamification development in the field of householdoriented energy conservation.
