In this paper, the thermal/mechanical damage process of Kevlar materials irradiated by laser under different laser parameters is studied theoretically and experimentally. In terms of theoretical research, the thermal/mechanical theoretical model of Kevlar composite irradiated by laser is established. In the model, the temperature field is theoretically analyzed according to the thermal absorption mechanism of Kevlar material to laser. In the heat conduction process, the laser irradiation is simplified as thermal flow, and the surface or internal of the composite is regarded as the boundary condition for solving the heat conduction equation.Different physical properties of Kevlar and resin matrix were considered in the model. Finally, the thermal/stress field of laser irradiated Kevlar composites is analyzed by heat conduction theory,thermal-mechanical coupling theory and thermal elastic-plastic theory. In terms of simulation research, the simulation model of thermal/mechanical damage process of Kevlar composites irradiated by laser is established on the basis of theoretical model. The simulation study on the thermal/mechanical damage process of Kevlar composites irradiated by laser was carried out.The variation of temperature rise, fiber stress distribution and overall displacement during laser irradiation of Kevlar composites under different laser irradiation time was obtained. In terms of experimental research, the experimental test system of thermal/mechanical damage process of Kevlar composites irradiated by laser was built. The thermal/mechanical damage process of Kevlar composites irradiated by laser under different laser parameters was studied. Finally, the changes of temperature, damage morphology and breakdown time of Kevlar composites with different thicknesses under different laser parameters were obtained.Comparing the experimental results with the simulation results,it can be found that the two are almost the same in the law, indicating that the model established in this paper can reasonably describe the thermal/mechanical damage process of laser irradiated Kevlar composites.
