Northern Liang was the last regime of Northern Wei to unify Hexi Corridor before the unification of the North. It was precisely because of the rulers’ accurate grasp of the geographical space of Hexi that Northern Liang was able to stand firm in Hexi, which was full of political power, and break down the neighboring political power one by one, finally realizing the goal of unified Hexi Corridor. Therefore,Northern Liang to Hexi’s strategy and management is particularly outstanding.Based on the Chinese manuscripts and archaeological unearthed documents, the geographical process of the war between Northern Liang and the neighboring regimes through the Hexi Corridor was analyzed, and the distribution of military forces in Northern Liang, explore the spatial layout of the war and the military geographical strategy.Compare and analyze the different offensive and defensive strategies adopted in the face of different regimes, the influence of geographical conditions on the war and the changes of the border line when Northern Liang passed through Hexi Corridor.Through collation, analysis and comparison,it can be seen that in the war history of the Northern Liang regime, according to military strength and geographical limitations, the active attacking regimes were Later Liang,Western Liang and Western Qin,while the passive defending regimes were Later Qin,Southern Liang and Northern Wei.However,Northern Liang’s foreign wars did not show the invariable offensive and defensive situation, but alternated according to the change of the war situation,so as to better realize its war purpose.Physical geography is its main defensive line, both in attack and defense.Ju Qu-Northern Liang’s first strategy goal is to capture Gu Zang, while in the process of competition for Gu Zang with three regime after the military conflict, its military strategy and the configuration of military forces change from moment to moment depending on the adversary, and in the main attack Gu Zang at the same time to open up the western battlefield,at any time to attack Jiu Quan,in order to attack the strength of Western Liang. In the face of Western Liang,Northern Liang launched a long-distance offensive strategy. He moved troops into Western Liang territory to fight, destroy their crops, plunder their population and destabilize the political stability of Western Liang. In the face of Southern Liang’s attack,he adopted the strategy of all-out counterattack and took the initiative to attack by taking advantage of the famine caused by natural disaster and drought,so as to completely drive the Southern Liang forces out of Hexi and take Gu Zang. After occupying Gu Zang,Northern Liang shifted its military focus to Gu Zang and attacked Southern Liang by relying on Gu Zang’s advantaged geographical conditions and military radiation range.Although the powerful Western Qin took advantage of the virtual conquest of Southern Liang to occupy its territory and captured the passage of Tuyuhun and Northern Liang in the Qilian Mountains to attack the north,Northern Liang changed its military structure according to its battle location and natural and geographical conditions, and made use of its alliance with the Xia to successfully seize the Huang River valley and extend its southeastern frontier to the Laji Mountains,so that Northern Liang completely completed the unification of the Hexi region.
