| Most plants from the Cyperaceae family have different forms, strong adaptabilities,well-developed rhizomes, and of high-feeding values. They are also commonly used plants in garden decorations and have high potential values in wetland vegetation restoration.Seed germination is an important stage in plant life history, but there are few studies on seed germination and dormancy of this family. In this thesis,Carex neurocarpa,Cyperus serotinus,Schoenoplectus triqueter, and Schoenoplectiella mucronata of different populations were studied. We observed and recorded the plant growth morphology, seed traits, and plant phenology, analyzed the correlation between these recorded parameters and seed germination, and searched for the best environmental conditions for seed germination and the best treatment method for dormancy breaking through a range of experiments. This research provides a theoretical basis for relevant techniques for the selections of target species from seeds, seedlings cultivations, gardening, and the use of soil seed banks for restorations of wetland vegetation. The main results of the study are as follows:1.In this study, there were differences among species in seed traits, seed germination status and methods of breaking seed dormancy of Cyperaceae plants. In four Cyperaceae species, seed size was negatively correlated with germination. All four plants were photosensitive, and the germination effect of variable temperature was better than that of constant temperature.Among them, the germination rate of C.neurocarpa seed was the highest at 30/35℃,which was close to 100%.The germination rate of S.mucronata seeds was the highest in the combined treatment of low temperature stratification and hormone,up to 90%.The germination rates of S.triqueter and C.serotinus seeds were the highest when the seeds were deposited for two months in the stratification method of low temperature water immersion(43% and48%,respectively).2.There were population differences in the growth morphology, seed traits, plant phenology, seed germination and dormancy breaking methods of Cyperaceae plants, and these differences were significantly correlated with the environment of the original place.Seed germination of different S.mucronata populations was positively correlated with morphology and negatively correlated with latitude. The methods of breaking dormancy of S.mucronata seeds were different within species, but the combined treatment of low temperature stratification and hormone had the best effect on breaking dormancy, and the seed germination rate of all the populations except Guizhou was more than 80%.The above results provide the scientific theoretical basis for the scientific provenance selection of target species, the cultivation of seeds and seedlings, the application of garden and the use of soil seeds bank for vegetation restoration. |
