Research On The Divide Et Impera Move

Scientific realism is one of the important schools in contemporary philosophy of science.In the 1980 s,in the debate with anti-realism,scientific realism gradually moved from global realism to local realism.Especially after the ’ pessimistic meta-inductive argument ’ was put forward,it caused a fierce impact on the famous argument of scientific realism-the no miracle argument.In order to get rid of the shadow of pessimistic metainductive argument,scientific realists have found a localization path.Local realism no longer promises the reality of the whole scientific theory,but only makes a real commitment to some parts of the theory.The realism strategy of divide et impera move is one of the most important defense paths of current local realism,which affects the future trend of scientific realism.Unlike substantive realism and structural realism,which choose a specific object to make a realistic commitment,the divide et impera move is a more general local realism.It does not believe that a specific theoretical content is real,but that the elements retained in subsequent theories are real.These elements may be theoretical laws,mathematical structure,theoretical entities,and so on.The divide et impera move strategy calls the real part of scientific theory as the essentially constituent.It believes that essentially constituents are not specific types of theoretical components,but rather constituents that are retained in subsequent theories during the process of theoretical evolution.Kitcher and Psillos respectively protected the authenticity of essentially constituents from three aspects: the problem of reference,the standards of mature scientific theory,and the binary strategy of theory.In addition,the divide et impera move strategy also discusses the screening strategy of essentially constituents from the perspective of methodology.The divide et impera move strategy is a new approach from the perspective of localization,which provides a universal,inclusive and mild possibility for the defense of scientific realism from the perspective of methodology.But it is precisely this methodological perspective that has led it to difficulties such as misusing theoretical convergence,circular argumentation,and unclear screening criteria.In the face of this series of heckling,the divide et impera move presents two development paths.Combining these two development directions may become a solid realist stance.
