With the development of science and the progress of society, many systems have emerged in real life. These systems can be abstracted into a complex network.Due to the close connection, these systems do not exist alone, and there will be various dependencies between systems. When some systems fail, the dependency relationship will cause the destruction of other systems, which will lead to cascading failures, leading to greater network system collapse. Therefore, cascading failures have always been a hot issue in the research field of complex systems.Because the existing researches on dependent systems are more focused on node dependency and less on edge dependency, this paper considers that for edge coupled dependent networks, the network robustness performance after network cascading failures reach steady state is analyzed under the edge attacks of random attacks and deliberate attacks. The research results are helpful to further enrich the understanding of network level linkage mechanics, and cascading failure theory has important practical significance for analyzing the research under edge failure and preventing large-scale network cascading failure. The main work contents and innovative achievements of this paper are as follows:(1)Cascading failure behavior analysis of edge coupled two-layer networks caused by random attacksTraditional researches on dependent networks mostly focus on coupling between nodes and attacking nodes. In this paper,a cascading failure model of edge coupled networks after random edge attacks is proposed.Numerical simulation is carried out under the coupling models of RR regular networks,ER random networks and BA scale-free networks to analyze the cascading failure behavior of coupled networks. The results show that when facing random attacks, increasing the number of nodes or increasing the average degree distribution of each coupling network can improve the robustness of the network. At the same time,in the coupling network with the same number of nodes and average degree, under the random attack, the coupling system composed of BA network has a better anti damage ability.(2)Analysis of cascading failure behavior of edge coupled two-layer networks caused by intentional attacksFurther consider the side coupling cascading failure problem under intentional attacks, and use the edge similarity coefficient(Jaccard)metric, edge degree(ED)metric, and edge betweenness(EB)metric as the basis for selecting edges to attack important edges in turn. The research shows that increasing the number of nodes and the average degree distribution can also enhance the robustness of the network in deliberate attacks;Due to the structural characteristics of the network, the coupling network composed of BA scale-free network has poor robustness in three kinds of intentional attacks; At the same time, among the three methods of edge measure, the intentional attack measured by the edge intermediate number(EB)has a stronger and faster destructive effect.
