Study On The Accumulation Of Patterns Of Ming-style Furniture

Appearing in the middle and later period of the Ming dynasty and characterized by unique styles and patterns,the Ming-style furniture plays an important role in China and the world at large.But little attention has been paid to how forms of Ming-style furniture were gradually formed.A majority of experts and scholars have devoted themselves to examining the impact of Song-style furniture forms on the Ming-style furniture.However,the formation of Ming-style furniture styles did not happen all at once.In the course of history,furniture forms kept on enriching.By the middle and later periods of the Ming dynasty,Ming-style furniture had been gradually mature,thus contributing to the glory of Ming-style furniture.Based on prior research findings,literature research method,field survey,conclusive analysis and comparative research are employed,and knowledge of multiple subjects,including design,history,archeology and anthropology are combined for argumentation of Ming-style furniture forms.Chapter 2 to Chapter 6 adopt the conclusive analysis and comparative analysis,and refer to Mr.Wang Shixiang’s classification of Ming-style furniture methods.Meanwhile,the appearance time of the high-type furniture is regarded as the watershed to analyze the high-type furniture of different periods.Form characteristics of the furniture in different historical periods are refined.Furthermore,differences and changes of the furniture in different historical periods are discussed to shed light on the development,accumulation and evolution process of furniture forms.Research reveals that different types of furniture demonstrated different form characteristics in different periods of time.Among the furniture of the Ming style,most furniture forms appeared in the initial appearance stage of the high-type furniture,namely the Period of Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties.The Song and Yuan Dynasties were a period of time where different types of furniture were experiencing accumulation of new styles.During the period,furniture had constantly created new components based on the previous styles.At last,in the Ming Dynasty,the furniture styles of the Song and Yuan Dynasties were basically inherited,and many complex forms of the Song and Yuan Dynasties were eliminated.All this contributed to the generation of the concise and elegant Ming-style furniture.All in all,through constant accumulation,evolution and reform of the previous high-type furniture styles,and by taking in fine forms of furniture in different periods of time,the Ming-style furniture finally shaped its concise,elegant and round furniture characteristics,which is widely known as the peak of China’s traditional furniture history.
