Although China have made outstanding achievements in the field of economic development, there are steel many hidden worries such as the intensification of population aging and the imbalance of industrial structure, which is hindering the sustained and healthy development of Chinese economy.Finding new sources of economic growth and reducing emission are becoming an important task of China’s development. The purpose of carbon-reduction is to protect the ecological environment. To achieve the purpose,we have to find new growth drivers to continue leading the high-level development of the economy. The development of the digital economy can exactly meet all of the above requirements.Therefore,low-carbon development and digital economy will become the focus of research.Whether the development of digital economy will have an impact on regional carbon emission intensity and how its mechanism will become a valuable subject.Based on the new growth theory, low carbon economy theory and stochastic environmental impact assessment theory, this research puts forward the hypothesis that the developing level of digital economy can decrease the strength of regional carbon emissions, which will be verified through empirical research in the following text.In the empirical research part, firstly the coupling coordination degree of each region between the development level of digital economy and the intensity of carbon emissions are calculated. Then a two-way fixed effect model is constructed for regression analysis. And next,an intermediary effect model is built to check out the mechanism of the development of digital economy affecting the intensity of carbon emissions;a threshold effect model is built to analyze the possible threshold effect when digital economy starts to influence the intensity of carbon emissions. Finally,a Spatial Dubin model is constructed to research the spatial relationship between the development of digital economy and the intensity of carbon emissions. The conclusion shows that: Firstly, the development of digital economy can conspicuously decrease the intensity of regional carbon emissions. In order to prove the conclusion of the empirical results, the methods of replacing core explanatory variables and replacing spatial weight matrix are used, which proves the robustness of the previous conclusion again.Secondly, the development of digital economy can influence the intensity of carbon emissions through resource utilization effect and industrial synergy effect. And when the per capita GDP and the degree of marketization are high enough, the carbon emission reduction effect of digital economy is more obvious.Thirdly, the development of digital economy has an over-flowing effect on the carbon emission intensity,in detail, the development level of local digital economy can not only decrease the local carbon emission intensity but also significantly restrain the carbon emission intensity of adjoining areas.By analyzing the internal mechanism and logical relationship between carbon emissions and the development of the digital economy, the study can provide factual basis for China’s development strategy selection and new angle of view for green and healthy economic development.
